I forced some settings to go beyond ultra since I had some extra headroom for performance.
Basically raised the draw distance on stuff like trees and grass while making the grass more dense and the shadows casted a higher resolution with further distance.
I will look into a Reshade sweetfx addon for improved visuals later on.

The only one that will have a chance of working is probably reshade + sweetfx.
Currently that doesn't work though.
Tried played at 4k res downsampled to 2560x1440.
Looks even better but I don't know if I like dealing with edging at 30fps.

Reputation: 490How "Open World" is the Witcher 3? Or is it a linear game?
Reputation: 580The areas are quite large. And they said its like 30% larger than skyrim.
Hope it gives you an idea how big it is :P.
I'm still in the starting area (Tutorial zone) . And just in that area there are tons of quests to do and monsters to kill , i also really enjoy the crafting.

Reputation: 580Well i remember hearing in a video when the developer said 30% larger... Don't remember which it was >.<
Reputation: 61This is where I got my info and it says 3.5x larger than Skyrim.

Slides in the presentation mention two large areas that make up the bulk of Witcher 3's world: Novigrad and Skellige. Novigrad clocks in at around 72 square kilometers, with Skellige's size estimated at 64 square kilometers. Together, the two combine to form a game world that covers 136 square kilometers, or roughly 52 square miles.
Members of gaming forum NeoGAF crunched the numbers on world sizes for various other open-world games, and the results are astounding. Skyrim's game world, for example, is only around 39 square kilometers, making Witcher 3's world roughly 3.5 times larger than that of Bethesda's open-world epic. In fact, the only modern game (if we aren't counting games that map the vast reaches of space, like Elite: Dangerous) that even comes close to the size of Witcher 3 is GTA V, with its 81 square kilometer world. Even then, Witcher 3 is 1.5 times larger.
So The Witcher 3 is even 1.5 times larger than GTA IV.

Reputation: 278Just got done playing for like 6 hours. The foliage is the only thing really bad looking that I've seen. It's not the only bad looking thing but it's definitely the worst. Grass clips through the ground, it's blurry as ****, and is always out of place looking with the rest of the game. Really odd seeing detailed faces and then n64 textures right behind it.
Next worse thing would be corners of buildings. Someone posted a screenshot of the game before the downgrade and it showed that corners had nice little models to neatly tie walls together. They don't exist in the game now and it's really obvious that they never really replaced them. Wish I could have taken some screenshots but I'm dumb and can't figure out if there's a built in screenshot button or not and I don't wanna open Steam.
On the plus side though playing the game on hard really makes the game fun. Even with the combat feeling clunky I get a thrill due to the fact that I die in a few hits. When I played as Ciri though I was getting hit after using her little teleport when I was clearly out of the way before the attack animation goes through. So you take damage before you're supposed to from a wolf attack and if that's later in game when it matters it's going to suck and it's kind of a big issue. Also the lack of blacksmiths and how fast my gear breaks really sucks too.

Reputation: 61The Witcher 3 is beautiful in motion when you see each individual piece of wheat sway in the wind.
In some areas it fall short of the original trailer but in others it does better.

Reputation: 61I think it only works on Windows 8.1 right now since the only people saying it works seem to be using 8.1.
Edit: nevermind found out it was FRAPS causing the crashing.
Also did a PS4 vs PC comparison screenshot.
Made sure it was the same time of day so it could be accurate.

Reputation: 61so what key bindings are you guys using. in this and the witcher 2 the default control scheme isn't good for how i play imo (i never use bombs/knives etc. and the dodge and parry both seem optional, i'll stick to rolling everywhere).
i mapped sign select to q and sign cast to middle mouse button, then i mapped lock on to right click. oh, and toggle run/walk to caps lock. and witcher sense on z.
