with dxtory recording 20 seconds takes up like 1g+ while shadowplay 20mb'ish xD
Alternatively you can use OBS with the NVENC encoder, it's the same encoder shadowplay uses to encode it's files.

I record a lot of FF14 raid video's, 30 minutes of video is just as small as doing it with shadowplay, you just get a bit more control over your recordings and stuff cause OBS just has some more features.

You also dont have to turn aero on for that and stuff.

Here is the quality I push out with OBS nvenc on 30.000 (way to high, I know) bitrate:


That particular file is only 1.7gb for ~8 minutes of video.
