Default This is sad and disturbing...

That there is not a single game on the market that is:

"Free to play" - So, I can fully experience it and see if it's worth the commitment. I also highly doubt there is a product out there available worth spending $ at the moment, but those who care less about this already are in games like FFXIV, ESO, GW2 expansion and so forth...
"Secure" - mainly from hacking, heavy exploiting.
"Sense of progression" - So, I have long term goals playing the game. I like to play for year+ at least.
"Populated" - Healthy population (this depends on how the game designed though)
"Recent" - I'm not looking to join a server older than 5 years, based on knowledge of what's been available.

That's pretty much it. The rest is minor things like essential patches that expand the lifespan of the game (if it's themepark based around gearing and overcoming content). Competition is a plus, especially amongst players, but being forced to depend on individuals that may not be avaialble most of the time or not even exist to complete goals is no thx. I like to be able to login at 6 am, 6 pm or midnight and pursue goals.

So, yea as you can see my requirements are simple, yet even this simple of a product is apparently missing...I'm purposely trying to limit my requirements. I'm not even looking for a "MMO". I've enjoyed in the past other genre games with a sense of community, progression like Pangya (some old golf game ruined by hackers and Need for Speed World for a brief period). Currently Marvel Heroes Online is my primary game, but I do need a back up. I understand Wild Star going F2P this month, but my optimism is low on it.

It seems like you're just too picky. There's never really been a F2P MMO that didn't at least heavily encourage spending on the cash shop. MMOs are a business, and those that don't make enough money close down. If you want a decent gaming experience, you'll need to be ready to drop a bit of money. Whether it be a monthly subscription,an initial investment of $30-60 on the cash shop, or buying the game if it's buy-to-play. Both The Secret World and The Elder Scrolls Online are awesome buy-to-play titles and I've never spent anything on the cash shop on either.

Guild Wars 2 is going free to play. It's a solid game and worth playing. SkyForge is pretty fun and you don't have to spend money on it to enjoy it. Most games that are F2P aren't too restrictive, really. Usually the worst they'll do is slow down your progression to help encourage you to pay so that you'll unlock a decent speed of progression.

Ahh! I get it! Because you don't have to buy the free games!

Cuz there's this site called onrpg.com that lists like hundreds of f2p mmos that were released in the past five years. I hear some of them are populated. Apoca ninja'd the GW2 comment, but yeah - most B2P MMORPGs that are still around have gone F2P.

so you don't like f2p quality games ? but at the same time you don't want to pay for higher quality games... to try them out?

it seems like u don't want to play anything ... go play some Single Player games ... oh sorry if they legal u need to BUY THEM

bottom like be it f2p , b2p or p2p u need to pay in all to decently play ... f2p has cash shop and no matter what u say those who pay in f2p games will always be better than you ... so better pay monthly and play a decent quality game.

Path of Exile meets all your criteria pretty much.

Aion, tera, and PoE all had acceptible CS in my opinion. Endgame is still lacking a bit, I think most developers believe that harder content = better endgame content and the armor grind is real in most cases.

Age of Wushu has the best monk class, Shaolin Monk. Can't think of an MMO off the top of my head that I remember for having a good monk class, however.

there never will be a 100 % free to play mmorpg game
sure you can play it for free but there are always limits to that in every mmorpg

a game companie needs mony to to run and and pay there pll that work there
with out income they will be shut down in less then a year

    its all about good marketing
