I recently came upon a newegg giftcard so I want to buy either the 970 or 390 for my new computer build. I will be pairing the card with an i5-6500 processor, 16 gigs of 1866 ram, and I have a 650w PSU (platinum rating so there shouldn't be any issues running either). I've done a bunch of research and it seems like the r9 390 has slightly better performance and is a little bit more futureproof with 8 gigs of vram. But the 970 has lower TDP and performance isn't significantly lower over most modern games and I enjoy nvidia's driver support. I don't care too much about VR gaming but I might run a dual-monitor setup at some point. So is there a significant reason to choose one over the other if I'm primarily doing 1080p gaming?
