I just call it the abomination set cuz the theme is Void monsters that all look delightfully horrifying.

I also need to get more direction on deck building beyond what I was told about the basics on creature cards and land cards.
Luckily Mondays I get to go to the local Hastings and meet up with some people who play the game and one of them is specifically there to teach newbies.
I, too, have a Hastings nearby. It's great, isn't it?

MTG can be great fun or a great heartache, depending on how much you want to get into it. If you play it casually, you'll probably have a decent amount of fun depending on your mindset. If you play it competitively, you'll probably end up hating it depending on how much money you have to throw at the game. You want to hit the sweet spot between the two.

Also, if you want to get good at MTG, play MTG. There's computer-based versions you can play on for practice if you don't/can't do it through real life or want to play more often. Playing Hearthstone might help you out abstractly - they are similar games and have similar concepts. That being said, they're two completely different games and the strategies you learn from one game won't exactly translate to the other. The type of thinking you learn from playing any sort of TCG will translate to any other TCG, though. Which may or may not be more helpful to you.
