Default Forgive the rant, need a place to let some steam off

*EDIT: Sorry, adblock squished it, spaced out now.

    *Rant START*
So I'm having to quit an mmorpg or at least a certain aspect and server of it that I enjoy because of drama reasons.
I found a guild I finally enjoyed a whooole lot, but a former guild member started defaming it.
And it turned into such widespread defamation that it was all over in game chat.
Then it showed up in the forums.
    Then social media.....
I tried to fight it in some form, but bringing it up was just seen a causing MORE drama even when it was simply defending a guild of people who did nothing wrong.
If I ignore it nothing gets done but if I fight it it feeds the troll.
    There's no winning.
    And so....
    Had to ragequit.
    Yup.
Pretty damn pissed, but at this point I just want to avoid the game for a while, and when I play again I'll play on a different server because I'm bitter that I could get NO support from fellow gamers within the specific server this affected.
    So there.
I'll just play a different mmorpg and really hope that any drama that happens doesn't get so widespread that there's no escaping it.
    *Rant END*

Now to actually bring up conversation, has drama ever made you quit an online or gaming community?
Is there a reasonable way to handle it that I'm not considering?

yeah wizardry online drama made me quit that game lol, after the beta was over and launch came i decided to remake the guild we had, and if the old leader came online i was gonna give the leadership back to him, but he didnt show up for weeks. so i decided to be a new leader and recruit new players and help newbies. and some asshat in the guild suddenly wanted leadership himself, saying i was doing a bad job. he even contacted the old leader on skype and made him come online to tell me to give him the leadership of the guild even though he wasnt playing the game anymore. the majority in the guild was on my side, but most of the old core members took the asshat's side and they started threatening me that if i didnt give up the leadership they would reform a new guild and pk us.

anyway in the end i gave the leadership away, i quit, and a week or 2 later the guild died. making me regret my decision. i should have just made them reform the guild and accept the PK war lol.

I've been playing mmorpgs longer than many of you been alive and I never let in game drama affect me (IT'S JUST A GAME). If you can't handle indirect conflict, you'll never cope with direct conflit in the real world.

"The first MMORPG is believed to have shown up in 1996, Meridian 59. It wasn't until 1997, with Ultima Online, that the genre started to become popular. Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games evolved out of MUDs. These games host a large number of players logging into the same world to play out there game."

King's Quest online. Part of the Sierra Gaming network. That was in 1993. It was a direct dial up server. This argument has been done a few times before and failed to prove me wrong. Oh look! You joined the fail club!

I literally can't find any mention of a King's Quest Online anywhere on the internet. The closest I've found is a thread on an obscure forum of an old King's Quest fan talking about how he wished they had made a King's Quest online, with the closest to it being The Realm (1996).

Not saying it doesn't exist, but it would be nice to see some evidence of its existing as I've always been fascinated with the birth of the MMORPG genre.

If 1993 was your first mmo year then you definitely weren't playing mmos before most of us were born. Maybe before most of us could talk but definitely not born. I don't know how young you think most of the regulars are on this site but we're not that young. Maybe the people in the mmo section but not the people that still visit the lounge.

The name was actually King's Quest 5, but the dedicated players called it King's Quest online cause well, we were playing it online with many other players. As I said before, it was part of the Sierra gaming network. It was a visual UI hub where people can choose various styles of games to play with friends, online.

You probably won't find much about it due to the era. It was during the time of BBS and dial up to hubs, not the WWW. To anyone who played Meridian 59 or other online games before it, they know it as the precursor to how MMORPGs and in game chat systems came to be. It was designed like the old school turned based first person DOS dungeon crawlers of the time.

It wasn't it's own product but part of the game hub.

You would be surprised how many OnRPG members have told me that I played games that are older than them... but eh... You're a newbie on this forum. I won't judge you by your lack of knowledge of this forum group.

W/E you say m8. My first account was also from 2006. I had maybe 300 post on it and was mostly a lurker. You didn't say "games" you said MMOs. You want to go back and change what you said that is fine but I communicate with a lot of the lounge regulars on a daily basis and we just talked about our age today. So if you're saying that the first mmo you played was in 1993 then you're wrong about having played MMOs before most of us were born. But you don't really talk on this forum much anymore so I won't judge you by your lack of knowledge on the age of the lounge group.

but as this is probably going to turn into an argument and that has no benefit for me; leading only to being banned or warned... yeah I respect your opinion as an opinion and I'll leave it at that.

    Lol nope. Never played Runescape.

The best MMORPG I've played is DDO. It has the best character development system and quite a bit of strategy and teamwork. For community, LoTRo is is #1.

Runescape was too generic compared what I was playing at that time. I didn't say BDO. I said DDO

Yes, I was born before it, but I have played about 2 weeks back in 2010ish? I was encouraged to play it cause a close friend at the time was. Sci-fi is not my forte.
