Game went from being a nice journey to suddenly being maps full of PITA enemies that made it no fun trying to get from one end to the other. Completely killed any interest I had in the game at the time. It kind of just felt like the whole expansion was about this or that gimmick, and it sounds like this one might be the same with all the mounts and weird ways you have to travel around with them.
I'm not the biggest GW2 fan but find PoF to be more fun than HoT imo and a number of people seem to feel the same way. The mounts are usable outside of the PoF maps and are a great way to get around various places, so they are at the very least worth getting (same is with gliding from HoT and some of the other passive buffs).

There are still tough enemies to fight and a lot of things to find, so it is still more of the same thing, but the map design feels better overall. That's all I can say really as I haven't really explored enough to really give a detailed account.
