Hence, it's time to look for a new mmo.
Ramble, and I think you guys focused a little too much about the repetitive part of that entire thing.
It's contradictory, I played so many mmo and all of them is about repeating a specific content until you go omg wtf. Isn't that one of the many things that drives players to look for a new game? Because once you got the strongest armor then what? FFXIV people mostly do end content for first clear or after they got the current bis they unsubscribe until the next content. I've even grinded hours for glamour items. Yea, the first few runs was fun. Once it starts getting to the hours things starts to become wtf.
Is it really wrong to think of ways to include things for pure entertainment? Or is pointlessly grinding hours of real life time into a virtual thing really entertaining? If so then wouldn't it be more efficient to pointlessly grind real time into something that effects real life? Some are even made to do pure grinding by including harsh rng base content. That is to say games like overwatch allows you to comeback to casually play a few rounds just for entertainment. But once things get repetitive + competitive things usually get boring.

it depends on what u think is entertaining ... i find WoW being entertaining even after clearing same raid for 100 times and havng best items ... i find farming gold in game entertaining ... i find queing for a pubg match and playing it over and over and over again on the same map to be entertaining...
I don't see a problem in repetative stuff i have been gaming for about 17 or 18 years now ... be it single player or be it mmorpg or online shoter its alway repetative i played FFXIV from the start up to the end of 1st expansion i found it to be amazing every bit of it even repeating the daily dungeons was fun ...
If u find it to be boring u should find a gaming community and try playing stuff in groups it opens quite a different view i am full time working and living alone so i have a lot of stuff going on and i am apart of a long time gaming community where we play stuff from hardcore to soft core ... being top 10 best in many games previously and having some people dojng competative stuff like in Skyforge 1st kills on bosses and etc ...
Trough such community i found my best gaming buddy he to has a lot in life going on but when we manage to both get on and play something ... the fun gets doubled
as i said it depends on what u find to be fun rly and what u find entertaining sometimes trying out different kind of stuff that u thought u would never try or want to try is great to

I think that's where the other element comes in. Is time. @Poeticas the difference between grinding the dungeon 100 times over a long span of time vs grinding the dungeon 100 times in a span of 3 days or less is the difference. Let's take ffxiv as the example game. You would probably spend 1 to 2 hours spamming end game dungeons versus someone who spend over 8 hours grinding the same dungeon (I have done that and still do in various games). The play style and repetitiveness becomes different as one is playing almost like it's a job vs someone casually playing. Now imagine condensing that time of completion per dungeon to be as fast as possible. Ex. It takes 30 minutes for casual players and 10~12 minutes to someone who's is rushing. Imagine that for 8 hours and more. (I think I've done a dungeon in 5 minutes before...) Eventually when someone play at that pace they'll do everything and is literally is repeating that for no reason other than they can just do it and continue at that pace.
@tihi have you played airsoft, paintball, or any type of physical contact sports? I played plenty of paintball before and that's a lot of competitive/pvp/grinding lol.
