If you play MMOs for a lot of hours, you'll find yourself switching to the next one sooner. It happens to me as well, FFXIV for example, when Stormblood released I played a lot, go to max level fast, was geared up pretty much first in the guild, did all the EX trials and then shortly after I quit. Can't be bothered to farm the same content I have already beaten, because the difficulty is trivial at that point and it's all up to my group on whether we can clear a boss or not, since I have already mastered the fight.
There's a few things you can do to "combat" this behaviour, if you don't like having to constantly look for new MMOs:
- play less, do more rl stuff
- play different games that aren't MMOs, there's a lot of fun games to be found
- play a competitive pvp game, these are a "grind" as well if you want to get good, but at least for me it's a more fun type of grind, since playing against/with other players changes how the game goes from match to match, not making it as repetitive as PvE boss fights, which are pretty much the same from first time you do it to the last time
I'm sort of in the same boat, pretty much quit mmorpgs even tho I sometimes have nostalgia and play a mmorpg again till I get bored...usually a few days at most.
I guess the genre is a bit much stale right now. After playing most P2P/B2P/F2P i'm back at Diablo 2 when I have some free time, which is very little these days anyways.
So my advice is to play whatever you feel like playing, don't think about how repetitive it is/was and just play and enjoy while it lasts, then take a break and/or jump into another game.
lol that's sort of what the original intent was. To find a new game. Sort of evolved into a whole conversation about repetitiveness.
I jump through all sorts of games basically. Though the funny part is I do this while going through rl stuff. Though the best time off I had off from playing games was when my job was to play games. It was short but that time was fun.
