Default Steam Unveils New 'Interactive Recommender'

    Steam Labs Unveils Interactive Recommender.jpg

Steam's "Steam Labs" program has a few interesting new experiments for players to try out and offer their feedback on. Perhaps the biggest is the "Interactive Recommender" system. This Recommender has a neural network model, trained to recommend games based on a user's playtime history, along with other data.

Ehhh. I think this is neat, but personally, not vested in it. I do like the concept of it however.

I only pay attention to Steam's game suggestions when I'm really bored, or sometimes during Summer/Winter sales to discover new stuff that's on sale.

I do like that they're trying to make some quality of life changes, though.

Couldn't be any worse than their current system. I get so tired of seeing "Ass, the Game" in my Steam queue.

"This is in your discovery queue because we're Steam, and **** you."

i never bought anything that was recommended to me by steam as far as i know so ill probably wont even use this.
i just check the best sellers for my region, then world wide. if im really bored i start searching by most played in every category. that's usually all the info i need

Yeah, I have zero intention of using this. I seldom find myself looking for random stuff on Steam. At best, I look to see if there's a Metroidvania I haven't tried that I should, and then I go back to whatever it was I was doing.

I mean, I check my discovery queue fairly often, just because I like to keep up on what's out there, but Steam has already been recommending me stuff based on what I already play for ages, I don't see how this is anything novel.

And I sit here and think what are steam suggestions at all and why should I care for it

No really, I always know games which are interesting for me and suit my gaming needs, why would I want to use any suggestions at all...

Because while you know which TYPES of games are interesting to you, can you confidently say you know every game that's out there in that genre? Hell I'm in games journalism and I certainly don't.

It seems interesting, this new option allows you to meet new games that match your tastes, the bad thing is that it can encourage compulsive shopping
