    Default Slay the Spire

So I've noticed quite a few games similar to Slay the Spire coming out since the release of that game, but I'm wondering if there was anything quite like it BEFORE StS came out?

wizard101 is the earliest game i can remember where you would summon actual monsters from cards to fight in a turn based battle for you.
but a singleplayer path based system as StS i cant remember.

Played a mobile game that had the same idea of a deck builder, though it wasn't rogueish. Instead you just acquired more cards as you progressed, but they could have additional traits, and there were challenge runs where things like enemies being immune to certain damage, or needing to do a chain, etc.
It's actually why i haven't gotten StS, it looks good and a fair bit more polished than the little japanese indie game I played but I don't really feel it'll be worth the price, to me at least.

I'm curious, were the playthroughs episodic? I haven't played StS itself, but I've played a couple that apparently have the same premise, and there's a few others coming out, like Griftlands.

Basically, I'm trying to determine in my headcanon if StS created it's own subgenre, or if it copied something else. Best I can tell though it was original.

I suppose episodic would it, as you'd do "dungeons" one at time.
Just dug through my playstore history, "DeckDeDungeon 2" is what I'm remembering.
From what I've seen of StS it certainly is unique compared to this old title.
I however did remember the game "monster slayers" which functions very similarly to sts, but I don't know which was first since spire sat in "early access" for awhile.

Speaking of Slay the Spire clones, one of my favorites, Night of the Full Moon, is now free to play (base game) on Steam.

My wife and I actually both spent money on the game for Android to unlock the extra classes, and didn't regret it. Many many hours played.

I remember playing very old (ancient) mobile game with the same idea and gameplay, like as if it copy paste, sadly I can't remember name of it. It was one of my favorite ones.
