Default theHunter: Call of the Wild beginner guide

This is one of my favorite online games out there due to its unpredictable nature, you never know what you're gonna run into next. However it does require a playstyle unlike any other game. here's a couple tips to get you started:

    • Go to lookout points to reveal outposts and other points on the map
      -
    • Watch the wind direction, your noise and your visibility to make sure you don't scare animals away. Use the HUD indicators at bottom right. Hide next to trees or in bushes to be less visible.
      -
    • Avoid running unless travelling between locations. You may still spot low scoring animals but trophy animals will be gone before you know. Running on roads makes less noise than running through vegetation.
      -
    • Don't waste in-game money on building hunting structures in the beginning, focus on buying callers, better rifles and an improved scope first. A store is available at each outpost.
      -
    • Spot animals to know their difficulty and estimate their score, you need to unlock the approriate skill for this. Try shooting the highest scoring animal first and take in mind the difficulty when calling an animal.
      -
    • Animal population is the largest around need zones. So look out for them, they are time based. You get xp for discovering one and it will stay marked on the map. They are often located around water and fields.
      -
    • Focus on male tracks and calls (blue icon = male, pink icon = female), they give you the best scores. Females are a good for easy money and xp
      -
    • If you scare an animal it will run for about 150-200m and then it will likely go in the same direction it was going before
      -
    • The distance to an animal is important to know for accurate shots, certainly if long range. You don't have a range finder? The position of spotted animals is shown on the map, put a marker on it to know the distance.
      -
    • One of the most useful perks is the zeroing perk. It allows you to choose the zeroing distance of your weapons. For rifles you will be able to choose between 75/150/300m, for bows between 20/40/60m. The distance in the middle is the default zero. When the perk is active don't forget to adjust the distance accordingly before shooting.
      -
    • You can see animals up to about 450m (492 yards) away, may differ depending on your settings and your location (more difference in terrain height compared to the animal increases the distance).
      -
    • Using a more powerful weapon or landing more hits than the animal class allows will always result in less than 100% trophy integrity. You can get 100% integrity with a less powerful weapon, but your shot placement must generally be better, you must be closer to the animal or you will need more shots to still get 100% quick kill and integrity.
      -
    • You can mouse over ammo types to see which animal class it's intended for, and you can open the codex>wildlife to see which class all the animals are in.

Really nice guide, Abhorsen! I'm not typically into hunting games, but this one looks like a good one. The graphics seem nice and by reading your guide it looks like there's a lot of mechanics at play.

thanks a lot of it was just copy pasted from steam guides but i think the tips should help new players.
i didnt think id be into hunting games either until i started playing this lol, now i tend to go for 8+ hour sessions and completely forget to eat or take breaks because im so addicted lol. and the crazy thing is, in other games that addiction fades. but in this game if i take a break and come back to it its back in full force again :P high replay-ability

Are there any weapons available in this game that give you high accuracy despite long distance?

yes theres plenty of rifles that can be fitted with a Argus 8-16x50 Rifle Scope for long range shots, although i prefer the 4-8x42 scope.
you can use zeroing ( a skill u get from leveling up) up to 300 meters, after that you'll have to learn to compensate for the bullet drop. the draw distance for animals is roughly 450 meters

here is a list of rifles you can get.

new players tend to pick up the .270 Huntsman(class2), 7mm Regent Magnum(class3), and Rangemaster 338(class4) which all perform well on high distances
if youre into dlc stuff you can pick up the Solokhin MN1890, Eckers .30-06 and .300 Canning Magnum instead. those 3 are always great to have with you, so you always have the right rifle, for the right job.
