id love to try everything at once but at the same time i kinda want to bite down in mh4u right now lol. looks like the mh4u hd texture project is only partly done, while the hd textures seem almost completed for everything in mhgen and mhxx, yes even for monsters, armors and weapons!


edit: just noticed most custom layouts i could find trough google were configured wrong for the 3ds's 5:3 aspect ratio so i tweaked mine a little.
1800x1080 got rid of the few black lines that were showing at the top and bottom in my recordings and previous screenshots and seems to maintain proper 5:3 ratio.


if anyone else wants to mimic this layout, i'm using a version of Citra called citra valentin 2.11.2

a little update, looks like the hd texture pack is far from complete, so i started looking into upscaling textures myself, so far so good lol

and a little before/after screenshot of the tetsucabra set, theres some issues with upscaling textures with transparancy to them. but on some sets it looks pretty cool like this one. note though that the shading is not suposed to be blue :P

this is quickly turning into my favorite monster hunter lol, spending half the time modding and upscaling, and the other half fighting these awesome monsters i never seen before:


first attempt at replacing textures rather than upscaling, which is as simple as replacing a 512x512 resolution png picture:
since citra isnt limited to 3ds hardware you can go all out with insanely realistic textures if u wanted to

Learned a lot of great things these past few days for texture upscaling, like how a lot of models/textures that came from the nintendo switch can also be re-used for MH4U if you match up the names of the textures. also learned how to split alpha channel from a texture, upscale, and merge them again. its a lot of hard work but the results are instantly visible lol, its very addicting

edit: released a texture pack for this game on the discord link is in the first post. gonna try get it on the nexus too







man this guy was tough for a low rank fight, i rather fight kirin in monster hunter world on low rank lol




this was a little how-far-can-i-go test :P a 260mb 8192x8192 texture. runs surprisingly well






edit: someone else from the MH4U HD team finished porting all monster textures from MHGU over, so they look amazing now.
we are looking at uploading our mods on nexusmods but its kind of tricky. upscaled textures=ok, but re-using assets=not ok.
