    Default Grind ranking?

since whether a game is grindy or not is a factor a lot of players take into consideration when picking a game
i guess it'd be a gd idea to make a rank and make it sticky so no one ever has to ask "is xxx grindy" again?
and personally i wanna no how grindy games are coz its not possible to try every game out

i'm pretty sure MS would be of the top 3 if not the top lol

    wt y'all think?

    Good idea.

Well, I'll put my thoughts of Cabal down. I played till lv 10. Seemed damn grindy to me. The only way to level was killing monsters, and every quest was go kill more monsters, my options being "yes! revenge!" and "no! I'm sick of monsters". When in reality I had nothing to do but kill monsters, so why say no. Used the same skill to kill everything with no sign of change, being capped at 4 skills, the rest of the skills being the same skill but a different "element" (wind, fire, ice, etc). There were like 3 more main with different elements (arrow, cyclone, etc.) which you would get at like lv 20, 40, 60. Each having different "elements". Granted killing is cool for a while in that game (probably gets old), it's still pure grind.

    Anyway...

Damn Dae, sorry, but I dont think you should be giving advise on; if a game is grindy or not. Cabal is not grindy. Your able to reach lvl 30 within a single day. Thats for the ones who play about 6-8 hours a day.

Due to the quest being given that grind is non-existent till lvl 50+. If you think that you feel a grind when you reach lvl 10, you have done something horribly wrong.

Please remember grind is based on the % of exp earned at certain levels(grinds usaully start when total exp earned per kill is less than .10%). What your talking about is diversity and immersion. Killing X mobs over and over again will make the game seem less immersive. I do agree, the quests need some new flabor to it though.

Complaining that all you do is kill in this game is really pointless, as its stated, its supposed to be a fast paced action MMORPG. Which has not failed to give you the action. JUst the lack of immersion is what I see. This game is very linear.

If we had a rank for grind, 1 bieng the worst and 5 being ideal. I would give Cabal a 4 cause you dont really notice the grind till your lvl 50+.

in definition terms, silkroad is rather grindy, espcially without a golden ticket but it compensates for it's style and gameplay. i wouldn't place SRO on top though, there are other things to do in SRO besides killing monsters 24/7 (although that's the idea of leveling ) anyway, i would say Xiah, after lv 5 you'll be spending days and days to level up (with about 1% or even less at lv 7/monster)

any suggestions how to make this rank in an organized way?

maybe everyone type as many games u can rmb that u played and give it a grindy rate out of 10 ( 1 = most grindy and 10 = least grindy ) and i'll try to make the list later?

saying Cabal is grindy is just plain ******ed, lvl 50 can be easily reached in 1 week...after lvl 30 u lvl easy like hell, and quests are really rewarding.

i even know one guy who got to lvl 80 in the 7 days trial they give lmao

in fact u find urself grinding more for skill exp than levels actually, coz u lvl REALLY fast.

if u consider cabal a grindy game, never try L2 or WoW,or u'll end up commiting suicide

i found L2 much more grindy than Xiah, anyway i'd put Xiah the second next to L2

and on the top 3 there should be Knight Online, hands down a really grindy game after lvl 40

Maplestory and Silk road is the only thing that comes to mind, Maple being the highest and silk being up there.

Interesting idea. Although MMORPGs are all about gradual progression, so there isn't any escaping from its genre-defining grind.

Btw, I would say FlyFF's pretty up there.

Well I am going to have to add Anarchy Online to the list. Lvl 1-200 isn't that bad, it was before shadowlands, took about 6 months for the first people to hit 200. After Shadowlands it takes probably just about 1-2 months.

200-220 when Shadowlands first came out took about 6 months of VERY HEAVY GRINDING to do thouse 20 lvls. I have played a lot of games, and anyone who has done thouse 20 lvls can confirm they have never seen a grind as hard. 20 lvls same mob non-stop, with only about 5 places to lvl total for a teams of 6, so any given time there are only 30 people who can lvl. So half the time is waitting just for a spot to open in a team.

Not only was lvling a grind, but getting gear was near as grindy as that. When people in wow complain how hard it is to get gear, I think back to "The Beast" in AO, hours to get to, only mob that dropped gear unlike wow raids with bosses the whole way, every guild on the server fighting you to get there, it being a open pvp zone. And it only dropping two peices of gear every 18hrs.

I wouldnt put WoW on the list myself, Getting rank 14 was a grind, getting full netherwind was a grind. But really they didn't feel even that bad, seemed more of a balanced grind. Lvling in wow is like eh, I dont even consider that when playing, takes like 10days to get lvl 60, and if you get guildmates to help its even faster. So I wouldnt call it a pure grind, I would call it a blanced grind. And I actully hope they make 60-70 more grindy, just so it cuts back on the ammount of nubs that make max lvl, ok I am evil ;P

Silkroad, Lvling is a grind, but I only going to really consider silkroad on my list because of the SP grind I had to do. So I grind all my SP at 16 only took a month of killing archers, but still it did feel quite grindy. But the time doing that definitly saved on lvling speed, which still with zero skill gap is very slow, but would definitly be worst if I didnt already SP farm.

Just so many of the asian MMO's out there I have played, but really can't comment much on them, as after a few lvls into the exp wall I usally move on to another one. As really I think I have grind enough to just enjoy the lvls without a grind for a change

i dont mind grind if there is like some thing other to do other than kill monsters and pvp. It gets dull. I like games like WOW. where u can do battlegrounds or runescape where u can play a minigame and/or train another skill.

hmmm seems that everyone's saying silkroad is very grindy but i'm still playing it for some reason =S
maybe i'm just too eager to get to lvl 30 and become a nuker and hopefully be so damn powerful as guides say

anyways lemme make my list now

    1. Maple Story ( 9.5/10 )
when i played i wished so bad i'll get a lot stronger and hence easier lvling after the class change so i played so hard to the class change lvl and learned my first mage skill
then i went to fight sth of my lvl to test out the new skill, then uninstalled the game coz the skill didnt look cool ( lol ) and the exp was terrible and i just couldnt imagine how hard it'll be if i go on...

    2.Tibia ( 9.5/10 )
played the game very long time ago
lvling takes ages not only becoz the game is slow, the lag was also a very serious problem
but most of all, PKers all around love to kill u and so u lose exp and delvl
also scammers everywhere...the game perfectly reflect how the world is as one of the aims of the game
the unfriendly community forced me out
anyways i played for months and i got to only around lvl 15?

    3.MU online ( 9/10 )
i hv no idea why lvling even the first lvl has to take so long and so tough?

    4. Flyff ( 8/10 )
again a lot of ppl say the class wif 2 swords ( cant rmb ) was the strongest so i thought lvling will be a lot easier after the class change and wt happened on MS basically repeated

    5. Xiah ( 8/10 )
played long time ago and ended up at lvl 5 after 2 days wif hrs of gamimg?
    cant rmb

    6. Silkroad ( 8/10 )
well although i'm still playing it i no its surely grindy
now quest for lvl 1x is to kill 600 of the same monster which is stupid and plain grinding
and i no in the future i'll hv to kill 4 digit number of mob soon...
i'm just looking forward to become a nuker and hopefully it'll be funnier otherwise it'll end up like MS and Flyff...

    7. Last Chaos ( 8/10 )
basically coz i couldnt find any game to play so i tried this
started talking to someone after he answered my question about char build and he was lvl 4x
he said my titan wont be strong until lvl 30 so i asked him how long is it gonna take to get to lvl 39
    "2 months.............if u play 8 hrs a day, not that long rite?"
    *log off and uninstall

    8. Deicide ( 8/10 )
pretty much the same as last chaos actuallly?

    9. Pirate King Online ( 8/10 )
slow paced game and slow lvl

    10. Endless online ( 8/10 )
u cant believe it takes so long to lvl

    11. Kal online ( 7.5/10 )
cant rmb much i played it so long ago, but this is where it should be placed in my impression

    12. Knight online ( 7.5/10 )
cant rmb much bout this game, impression rank

    13. Mythwar Online ( 7.5/10 )
i like the turn based battle system but the game is reli boring when ur lvl gets after a certain lvl when u cant hv free heal anymore and then it becomes grindy

    14. Runescape ( 7/10 )
dont hv to explain this i guess

    15. Hero online ( 7/10 )
    not easy to lvl anyways

    16. Turf Battle ( 7/10 )

    17. Nostale ( 6.5/10 )
Was fine till lvl 30 when everything turns aggresive and it takes so long to lvl

    18. Conquer online ( 6.5/10 )
took me a few months to lvl 80, not so grindy if someone is plvling u but the community is not totally friendly, ppl PK u for fun and stuff

    19. Eudemons online ( 6/10 )
better than Conquer coz u hv the XP skill system which reli boost up ur lvling as well as exp balls

    20. Travia ( 6/10 )
Isnt reli that grindy but eventually u've to kill lots of monsters to lvl up as a part of the game...in terms of grind, its not terrible

    21. Rappelz ( 5/10 )

    22. Risk your life ( 4/10 )

maybe i'm a lil bit tight on giving ranking pts but anyways these are most if not all the games i played

Great idea, But why not get the game list in the sticky section (ask for permission first) and add the grind rating to it? It would be alot easier wouldn't it?

Then you could just tally vote's on each game and get your average rating?

Cyber, this thread's purpose is for us to post what games we found grindy. How else are we going to get a list of what's grindy and what's not? Everyone has to say what they thought of the games they played. I think Cabal is grindy. You do not think it's grindy.

That's fine. Your opinion. My opinion. We'll see, as the thread progresses.

Honestly, I find most games grindy since I've played WoW. WoW found a way of easing the grind through quests, instances, and many other features.

FlyFF was a HUGE grind compared to WoW. Cabal was a slight grind compared to WoW.

By the way, lvl 30 in 1 day with only 6-8 hours played? Yeah, I don't believe that.

I'm not complaining. The rating of a grind, is how immersive a game is while leveling. Cabal is pure fighting to level up. I find it entertaining for a while, but if you can mindlessly sit there and still be entertained, I pity you. I'm talking about 10+ hours and still casting the same spell over and over. That's a freaking grind.

For further notice, I don't want to hear your opinion in any further topics. You can go ahead and reply that I'm wrong and you're right in this thread though - I know you will. Just remember all I've said is in my opinion, I found this game grindy, and you feel the need to personally say I shouldn't express my opinion, instead of saying you didn't think it was grindy.
