Rage Against the Machine is really awsome. Nickleback, not so much.

Here's what I am going to dub "Arcteryx's Official Totally Kick-ass Music List," cause these kinda of threads seem to come up a lot, and it'd be nice to have a list I can just ctrl+v.

    My Morning Jacket
    Franz Ferdinand
    Johnny Cash
    Interpol
    Hot Hot Heat
    The Vines
    The Streets
    Deltron 3030
    Handsome Boy Modeling School
    MF Doom
    Madvillain
    Gorrilaz

Ahh, The Streets! I totally forgot about 'em. They're great, but what type of music can you really consider them? I think you should try listening to Soil. They have lots of good songs.

For rock, all I can suggest is Alice Cooper. Not the best, but worth listening to for a day or two. Pick up Brutal Planet.

And now, my specialty, whether you like it or not, power metal.

Hammerfall (My personal favorite, these guys are just awesome)
    Arwen
Blind Guardian (Their old stuff is more speed metal then power metal, but they've been slowly transforming into symphonic power metal, try Nightfall in Middle Earth)
    Demons and Wizards
Dragonforce (Not my favorite, but worth a listen)
Edguy (Everything pre-2002 is awesome, but Rocket Ride did them no justice, in my opinion. Make sure to get The Savage Poetry.)
    Helloween
Kamelot (Good band, I don't really like the vocalist, but they deffinetly deserve a chance)
Lunatica (Not everyone thinks their power metal, and to be honest, they arent. But they sound like it, and I have no idea what "gothic metal" is supposed to mean)
Nightwish (Operatic symphonic power metal, really good stuff)
Sonata Arctica (Really good band, fast, melodic, and everything that makes power metal great)
Stratovarius (Just tarted listening to these guys myself, really good music)

    And thats about it. Enjoy.

Amazing selection. I second that! Sonata Arctica is my personal favorite. Looks like I need to check out some of those bands you listed.

I can agree that some rock bands can be a little out of hand, and sometimes just plain stupid, but usually the name is there for a reason (Lyrical style, genre, favorite character in a book, some piece of poetry, whatever).
actually not only blues, gospel, jazz, and country. (for you doubters don't even think about flaming this fact. I researched about creator of rock and roll and this is wut he said rock originated from) and ya rock changed from a swing to like random playing, but yet. we all love it somehow

Try In Flames for metal. They're pretty good. Also if you're into rock.hip-hop kidna bands then LP and Fort Minor are pretty good (fort minor's more hip-hop than rock.
