Lately I’ve seen lots of kids in puberty coming to all kinds of forums while whining about all the swearing in Gekkeiju Online. I find this rather amusing that there actually exists so many people with no sense of humour nor brains enough to keep their mouths shut. This fact has lead me to write this rant… partly only to bash these morons but also to explain a bit why Gekkeiju Online was made the way it is.
First let’s address the fact that nowadays there’s simply too many online rpgs in the market. This means that unless the game is unique, there’ll be no way to get players nor any interest for the game. Of course graphics are one way to attract those moronic graphics whores but they’re hardly the audience I’m looking for my project. This fact means that small scale online rpgs with bad graphics must have something that makes them ‘different’.
The second fact is that I’m not a serious person. I don’t like to make serious games either. Those of you who know the history of Coolhouse, should be more than aware that almost all of the games have been in parody-style. This applies to Gekkeiju Online as well. One of the main priorities is to bash everything that makes some [insert your favorite crappy asian swatter online ‘rpg’ here] too serious and idiotic (in my opinnion).
In most normal online rpgs, the player is a hero. In Gekkeiju Online, naturally, one of the keypoints is to bash this idea. So what would be a better start than make the player an anti-hero? What could be the worst possible way to start your ways as a wannabe adventurer? Being a not-so-serious person this of course led me to make the player wake up in bed next to an orc. Some ******s have objected that there’s some sexual comments or something about this. There’s none. The situation in the start still has to be imagined by the player himself. I could for example say that the player was just being healed by the orc shaman… or something. So doesn’t this make the ******s who whine actually perverted morons? and racists as well.. what’s wrong with orcs anyways? I'm sure they can be more manly than any of the whining morons.
So far we have proven some key elements that make Gekkeiju Online the hilarious game it is. I cannot, however, force everyone to have a good sense for black humour, sarcasm and bashing of their favorite crappy online games. But should I care? and why should I care? This leads us to the next fact.
Gekkeiju Online is a non-serious hobby project. So what does this mean? It means the simple fact that the game is made with $0 budget. It also means the game is being worked on whenever I feel like doing so. It also means the game is there for the people who want to play it. This on the other hand means those people who have a sense of black humour and sarcasm, and who aren’t graphics whores. So lots of stuff that means something… The fact remains, Gekkeiju Online doesn’t try to become the next [insert your crappy favorite mmorpg]-killer nor even the [another crappy mmorpg]-killer. The game won’t change its style in order to leech new players from other games. Something like that would just make the game another crappy online rpg without any uniqueness in the pile of crap that gets published by those huge child slavery-forest-destroying-poverty-causing-big-ass corporations each year. Do we seriously need more of such crap? I don’t think so.
The stuff listed above is most likely only a small part of all the reasons why Gekkeiju Online is such a bad game in your opinnion. This probably isn’t the game for you. I want to offer another option for people who think differently . If you don’t that’s your loss. You can go ahead and support those commercial games just like you support some slavery-supporting hamburger companies etc.
This being said, you’ll only make yourself look like a moron when you whine about the sarcastic/parodic/etc content in the game. Probably makes you just another of those sad fools replying to trolls as well? Now think about that you moron.
