    Default What annoys me.

What annoys me about this section, is that some n00b, finds out that they can perform a simple "Hello World" programme, and then they think they're God's gift to the Programming world.

And then there's the people who say this:
"RECRUITING FOR UBER MMORPG DEVELOPMENT TEAM"
Technically, even if it is an RPG, and not some crap flung together, and it is in fact online, then it'd only be a MORPG (Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) - (Notice that It's missing the "M" - Massive)

Then there's the people who say "You're going to get paid, when our game hits the shelves). YOU DONT KNOW THAT YET. 90% of all projects are scrapped, and 99% of them don't even see the light of day.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TAKE EVERYTHING I'VE SAID INTO CONSIDERATION

    And some constructive advice:
Do not open up a compiler, and think "I'm going to spend the next 3 hours, coding the best frikin game ever" - It doesn't work like that. Come up with a storyline, races, professions, the culture, economy, systems, era - things as obvious as that.
And even if you're not so good with Sound and Music, Marketing, Programming, Graphic Rendering, Animating (Game developing in-general) then don't threat. Read some inspirational Developer journals. Pretend you're going to make a game, including the storyline, characters, etc but without the putting it into practice. Example:
At the moment, I'm not the greatest of programmers, and I'm nowhere near to creating an MMO, but I do like to fantasize about it. I create little stories of fantasy adventures/Sci-fi adventures, I draw little sketches of characters. I brainstorm ideas.

I'm sure there are some of you agree with my views.
High five to those of you who read the whole thread.

I do agree with you that it is pretty annoying when people pop up saying they're working on a game, wants help, and ahs very little proof of the games existance or concept.

A while back, some guy kept trying to recruit people promoting with a game he never even got off the drawing board. It was so great when the mods finnally got to him.

But anyway, this is a casual gaming forum, it's only natural to get alot of people in this section thinking that they are going to make it big on playerworlds. (note: playworlds is a great start for concept and game design, but it'll get you no where). But also remember that this site has (or had) tutorials for playerworlds.

I say, people, tone it down with the "I'm gonna create a Naruto mmo" when you'll never finish it do to copyrights. (not to mention, lack of an origanal design)

also, true, playerworlds is an orpg creater, and any general beginer is not going to have the server or bandwidth capacity to run an mmo either.

God...it's been so long since I've posted on this section of onrpg...but anyway. This is so true in so many ways, although I find this thread kind of pointless (no offence) I still agree. I remember when, at one point in time there seemed to be a HUGE thirst for Naruto MMOs. It was quite sad to see all these total newbs at game development come here and say "Hey I need a team to make a game for me. I sware I'll pay good money." Every time I read one of those threads I laughed so much . Anyway it's true that it takes several weeks, possibly months before getting to actually program. (And years to learn the programming language) Now that I think about it I should get back to my game design....Well I hope that some people will come across this thread before posting they're annoying "Looking for team members, I'm a total newb" threads.

P.S. Hey guys long time no see on this end of the forum lol .

We should totally make a Naruto MMO!!1 xD
    Lol. No offence taken btw

Might start posting in the Development section more often, see if it'll liven it up. Maybe we could do Fortnightly competitions?

We should form A Union. Lol.

I really think OnRPG should do something to spice up the Development section in this forum. All we get is:
"CREATING BEST MMO IN THE WORLD. BETTER THAN WoW. Btw, can you tell me where to download the thing where you start it up, you tell it loads of crap and it creates the best mmo ever please?"

I think we should have those competitions I mentioned earlier. Nothing major, just a sort of POTW (Project of the week - Spin off of SOTW). Maybe some advertising in places like GameDev.net ?...But this is just a fool's plead.

I just want people to understand that to anyone in the industry you are a moron, a talentless pawn whose resumé and portfolio will be thrown in the garbage with maybe a quick view.

Who are you and what have you done for the industry other then THINK you know all about it. Do research talk to people in the industry. MOST of the time you can find a developer willing to look at your stuff and give you pointers. This is the same as artists looking at eachothers work to critique it.

    Rules of the industry.

    1. You only as good as your last game
    2. If you don't have a game make one!
    3. If you don't know how to make one learn

That means don't find other people to make one for you and slap your name on it.

Your first game would take you maybe a week with 3 people working on it. thats 2D maybe 2 weeks for a 3D Flyer like Decent.
For your first games I'd suggest using these.

For 2D, learn the SDL api its a beautiful thing and free
For 3D if you don't know how to program an engine get OGRE its a free and open source and is also beautiful.

and don't use pirated software because then your helping the pirates ruin the industry, don't be cheap spend the 100$ on photoshop or the 50$ on Visual studio.

    /rant off
