Everyone living in the continent of America is an America.![]()
As people said people living in America are Americans. That includes all of North America. IT depends on the way the text is used. Those who say Americans are fat and stupid are no better then who they THINK they are talking about. Americans are very fat, but the newest generation coming out is not as much. Then again generations are in increments of about 10 years so we cannot really say that because we are comparing part of the nation w/ all. (I am using the notion Americans as US not all of North America)
If we discuss all of North America, Canada has a lower obesity level then England which is not second only to US, and is not that far behind.
Any ways Afro you are sort of right, people only stopped trusting the US government when we had conspiracies inside and pretty much the same time Nixon left the white house almost all Americans lost trust. How ever it started with Truman, when Roosevelt was in office he had almost complete authority.
Let's all agree that most of us will get these message,
Americain = U.S. ppl.
Canadian = Canada
Reputation: 131To those of you saying "...Americans are stupid and fat." please do not group us all together based on the liberal BS you hear on the news. Take the time to get to know some of us before you stereotype us all.
Your notion of Americans being stupid and fat is a biased opinion and a poor symbol spread across the globe. But since The US is the most powerful nation in the world, currently, everyone hates us. (it's always the big thing to hate the most powerful)
I do agree that much of the US population hae closed off their minds to other ideals and since of enlightening entertainment (ahem, the people who refuse to watch a subtitled movie eventhough it is far better than everything else out, just because it's subtitled)
In truth, most US citizens are only a little overweight, (those that are obeise can be found at MacDonalds).
But for one to group everyone together in a biased way and consider them all the same, that person is no better than the bias he is expressing.
And yes, there is not as much freedom in the world today, but the US still has a lot more freedom than 80%-90% of all other countries. (We're allwed to mouth off our elected officials in the most extreme ways and won't get "silenced" for it)
Reputation: 10EDIT: NO IT IS the same post with more consideration added for you're dumb ass. I'm american you stupid ****s. GO LOOK AT A ****ING MAP. Every one that agreed with him isn't even american or they wouldnt be so stupid to make this error.
Every one that agrees with this kid is a fool. You stereo typing mother ****ers. You're calling me stupid and fat? I happen to be in great shape and i'd wreck you're ***** asses. Why don't you stop being such an arrogant little **** and realize that you're just a ***** you're self.
Reputation: 10Wtf are you talking about? It means the exact same thing stop trying to change the subject ******. Admit you're just a little ***** and you don't know shit. You try and act like you're so much better then us but you make a bull shit arguement and you don't even know what the ****ing continent of North America happens to be? Pardon me but i think you should just shut the **** up now.
I got to say the whole lot of you(cept for like, 1 or 2) are acting very immature.
First,
the Americas=North and South America
American(s)=Citizens of the United States of America, or a native resident of the America's(ie: an American Indian)
Don't like it? Tough. Thats how the English language is.
Look it up in any dictionary.
Here are two online ones:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/
http://dictionary.reference.com/
Now, it's quite obvious that he's not talking about native Americans. One can deduce that through common sense(something we have to use, not ignore).
And Afro-American, you broke the rules. He didn't. Deal with it.
I love my country(U.S.) What I hate is the government and the arrogant society that surrounds me.
That, and the whole "WE'RE BETTER THAN YOU" attitude. First, we are not at all better than any other country at ANYTHING. Second, what the **** does that matter? Who gives a flying **** if the country you live in is number one. What should matter is if you can ask yourself if there is something you can complain about in your country. If so, then you should strive to change that.
A few facts, though.
We come in 18th place for life expectancy, 5th in employment.
Our College education is on par with most countries high school education. We have one of the highest poverty rates of first world countries. Third world countries like Brazil exceeds us in clean energy(non fossils fuel). Most of the new major scientific break through are coming from Europe. We have one of the worst health care systems.
I even remember some statistics coming out about freedoms, and America didn't even make it into the top 15
But hey, one thing we do better than anyone else is our war toys. We have enough fire-power to completely destroy this planet at least 20 times over and make it uninhabitable for a couple million years.
But I don't really see that as something to brag about.
It would be anything but American to ignore these facts. As citizens of the United States of America we need to realize our flaws, and try to fix them. If we ignore what is wrong with our country, they will never be fixed.
Ya i fell into his trap and broke the rules o well. One more warning and its no more afro.
How could I possibly say it better?Well FabianN you do bring up a lot of good points, but I think the education system is the most true one. And it is one reason I am moving out into EU and will raise my children over there. I have been to both EU and Asian (Japan), and my sister has been to China. We both have agreed our high school/college (we are high school students in community colleges, we both will have AA's by the time we are 18 which is not something about 98% of the population can say.) is nothing compared to EU or Asia's. China is probably the most difficult of all, if you don't believe me, ask some one in China about their school life, chances are they will tell you its about 12-16 hours a day for 6 days a week. Then when big tests come to get into colleges its 7 days a week and up to about 18 hours a day. They do not have jobs before 18 because they have no time for it. They have school rankings and city rankings in China which is something US should do. I have personally met with the the number 1 student in one of Chinas 10+ millions cities. They are smart, and in Japan their education is beyond ours with classes, physical fitness and more. When I was in Europe, my beautiful and wonderful girl was taken 13 classes at one time. We take 7 max, and she was taking difficult classes, 2 language classes, physics, biology, calc, and many others.
I will admit that the US sucks, but our freedoms differ greatly, but are slowly being taken away. One of the bigger differences is we do not give homosexuals many rights, and many countries in the EU have, Italy which is the most highly populated Catholic country in the world has given homosexuals the right to marry and adopt.
Americans are proud of their country, but other people are proud of their history.
As to technology, America is only the leader in some technology and medical fields. But those fields are moving over into the EU, especially the biotechnology and soon the nano technology. They already are doing well in the micro technology and should be moving on in the next 8 years.
I will admit though, that I do consider Americans to mainly be from the US, since we call people from Canada, Candians. But when some one says, in America, that means those who live in all of America. If they say Americas it means both S and N America.
Regardless one thing some people may not notice, but try being an American going to EU, and explaining your language system. I compare American to English when I discuss it, why some may ask. It is simple, because England is the main founder of Anglo English and thus we just changed it from how we live, so we really speak American when comparing it to how people from England talk .
Uh...Huh. Will you people stop referring to others as children when they make a post that is the least bit immature? It makes it seem like everyone here are ignorant tightwads, without much sense to their names. I've seen tons of children that have some kind of intelligence to them.
Also, Canada is the shit. They and Japan have the best appearance as of late.
I think I may move to Canada. The US is starting to annoy me for some reason.
Reputation: 71As a stupid fat American, I don't have the time to read this whole thread because I am illiterate, and because I don't have much time. Us Americans, spend all our time at McDonalds.
They say America is stupid but we have one of the highest literacy rates world wide.
They say America is fat but in Russia girls try to become fat because it's a sign of beauty and Britian is trying to outlaw McDonalds.
They say we're The World's Police but we have one of the highest crime rates world wide.
They say we're all lazy but I don't see anyone else stepping up to go to Iraq.
They say we're too vain but there's a McDonalds on the corner of every street.
I just don't get it. You guys accuse of all this stupid stuff and in the end it comes down to one thing. Jealousy is the highest form of flattery.
BTW Fabian: Canadians are americans. Just look at the name. United States of America. We are the United States in this land of America. You have to include North and South America. You can't call us United Statians but rather, the US. Now if you want to get technical, the only Americans are Native Americans which includes pretty much every hispana not from Spain or Italy. Though if you want to categorize us by land, we would be Americans though there's no common term for the people of the US. It's like saying Germans are fat and stupid. Well there are Germans in the US and there are Americans in Germany. If you want to refer to Germans would wide, your referring to their ethnicity you'd say the people native of Germany. If you were talking about the land of Germany, then you'd say the people of Germany. I know, it's awfully confusing and trust me, nobody can fully understand it. We've already gotten technical, now if you want to get ethical, I am African American, as well as an African United States Citizen. If I was to become a citizen of Germany, would you call me a German. No. To anyone around the world, I'd still be an African. Because no matter how you see it, there is absolutely no way to not stereotype people.
EDIT: Kriff, that is completely true. But that's how every country does it. That's just how things work. If you win the war, you write the book. That's how it goes no matter where your from, not just the US.
EDIT: I've edited this post like 12 times to make it seem to make a little sense.
According to the declaration of independence, once the government somehow tramples our rights it is up to the people to throw off thier government and establish a new one.
We are just to damn lazy to do it, and most people like the system we have now. Most of the things the government may or may not do are against the law, but that doesn't stop them. There is corruption in every government no matter where you live, or where you move to.
as for this line:
"They say we're The World's Police but we have one of the highest crime rates world wide."
I don't think you get what that means. The statement is true, we took the title of world police. This means we make sure the rest of the world stays in line. I believe we took on this role somewhere in World War 2, before WW2 we were isolationists. If Japan hadn't of come after us we might have never entered that war at all.
Americans, although may include Canada and USA, is a term that is now used to define just those of the US. When was the last time you including Canadians in the term Americans? It's just one of those terms thats changed over time...
American -
1. Of or relating to the United States of America or its people, language, or culture.
2. Of or relating to North or South America, the West Indies, or the Western Hemisphere.
3. Of or relating to any of the Native American peoples.
4. Indigenous to North or South America. Used of plants and animals.
Notice the first definition is the one more commonly used.
Reputation: 10MFNB, that was a good argument.
And most of the kids I talk to from Europe are like, I wanna live in the ghetto! It seems so cool. What I heard from them, is that they are taught that America is just one big ghetto. And I tell them, NO YOU DON'T! Bad, bad place.
Reputation: 71I never use the term American to describe someone else. The most I'll say is God Bless America or proud to be an American, which pertains to both.
Have you ever done a search on google where most of the people spelled the word wrong? Let's take the word "mispelled" in google. It comes up with 411,000 results while the correct spelling (misspelled) comes up with 485,000 results. You see, people aren't always correct. And believe it or not, we hardly ever are.
As for the ghettos, there aren't any actual ghettos in the US. I don't think Jews are restricted to any certain place. Lol though. Good job Chica.
It's actully is one of the lowest for first world countrys.
Actully, the statistic is that America is OBESE. Obese is basically fat fat people.
And countries in europe outlaw things like McDonalds because they know it's not good for their people and are stopping it before it starts.
Those are two COMPLETELY different things that are not related in the way you are trying to relate them in.
We use POLICE to police our own citys, and we use the ARMY to police the rest of the world.
Huh, that couldn't possibly be because it was shown hundreds of times that the whole "WMD" thing was all a lie and there WAS NO REASON TO GO TO WAR?
That may be your personal opinion, but it's not how the English language works.
Those that live in Canada are called Canadians. Those that live in Mexico are called Mexicans. Those that live in the United States of America are called Americans.
Look it up, ask your English teacher.
It's how our language is, simple as that. And the opinion of a few people does not change that.
And if an American(citizen of the US) moves to Germany, he is still called an American. And that first line... wut?
Greatness is something that can be mesured. You don't need to be brainwashed. If anyone IS brainwashed, it would be you.
There are statistics for every little thing, and only a micro percentage of those are we(the US) in a good position.
