I do agree ROSE is a vrry fun game ,not realy p2p quality but vrry fun and addicting ,well DAOC is for me the best p2p game but u would need some expension packs DAOC with trials of atlantish would set you back 45 euros or 50 dollars( the dollars part i do'nt realy know ^^)

If you want good PvP, go for L2, DAoC, or Guild Wars ( Factions for big pvp, nightfall for 1vs1 pvp). If you want game of skills go for DAoC, GW, or DDo. If you want a newbies intro to MMORPG and agame where its all about your gear then WoW is what you want.
All has good graphics, but each has their own type of class.
Me, I still enjoy GW and DDo the most. Both are skill related, and DDo has a moderately decent PvP. Think of it like RYL, but with better graphics and more skill involvement. Guild Wars just has a unbound mass of profession combination and over all great PvP system.

Anyway, L2 is ok. Gragics are gorgeous yes, but gameplay is kind meh. Its pretty much a typical korean mmo imo. I had fun with it for a while though. There are lots of farmers though and the prices for equipments are INSANELY high. by the time I got enough money for a certain equip, I already surpassed the lv req by a few numbers cause it toke so long to gather all the money. It's more enjoyable w/ friends though.
I tried ffxi and didn't like it. toke forever to lv, game is all based on partying pretty much. Its fun with friends though.
I'd say maybe CoH or CoV/ I haven't tried these 2 yet though so I can't give any opinions on it. good luck =)
