PlayStation Home and porn: they won't stop you

There won't be anything to stop you uploading porn to your private space in PlayStation Home, according to Sony, but you obviously won't be able to wave it around in public.

It was Phil Harrison wot said it, speaking to semi-official blog ThreeSpeech following this month's GDC announcements - including that of the virtual "Home" universe - in an interview that quickly drew him into a discussion about, well, "moderation".

"It's absolutely deliberate that there is no physical impact between characters, between avatars," he explained, adding that you will be able to do things like shake hands. "But no, we're not going to have 'those' kind of animations that I'm imagining that you're thinking about."

Not content with that, the ThreeSpeech blogger made his point more explicitly, asking whether it'd be possible to upload pornography to your private space, and whether Sony would do anything about the people who "invite people you don't necessarily know" to come and watch it with you. Amazing.

"Well I'm disappointed that you would use those as the first questions," Harrison responded. "I think Home should be used for a much wider and more beneficial scope than that, but I think that people can express their creativity inside Home in a wide variety of ways and it's not necessarily for us to dictate what that should be. However, if somebody feels uncomfortable about an encounter on Home, it's very easy for them to ban that person from their friends list."

Their are parental controls and Sony doesn't allow porn in the lobby. You can also ban friends from list and what not. There is also many moderators around the lobby.

It's obvious that anything you upload will have to be uncopyright protected. This is going to become a haven for Sony calling the cops when people break the copyright of Grey's Anatomy the day it comes out and uploads it onto their Home. Also, I don't think there'll be a file size limitation because the people uploading it, will probably be using your bandwith. I don't think Sony has the bandwith to support downloads from a billion + people.

Oh and how does Sony fail? Because they're not going to limit what people put in their home. I think it's a good thing. It's not like cheating on a MMORPG. I think that MMORPGs should have no moderation of chat because like most online games, you can swear up a storm and what not. It's going to be like that, with pictures. Now with this porn, they'll have to add a feature that asks are you 18 years or older so that the person can view the movie or it already has your age in the profile. You know, when it says on sites this page is for people 18 years and older...

I think they can handle it. Considering that the PS3 is gunning for action oriented games (FPS, fighting games, etc) and other RPGs, I highly doubt that enough people will play Home to crash their servers. Especially since you can watch porn in your own damned house, on your own damned computer/ TV.

I admit it would be pretty sweet to go out into the lobby and shout " UNRELEASED NARUTO EPSIDOE COME INSIDE TO WATCH" (you would probably have kids entering by the dozens) and then have the hugest t.v you can get on home(if you can get different sized t.v's) and have like beastality or some sick porno playing. Rofl oh my god it would be so good.

Nintendo isn't responsible for what's on the INTERNET! And another thing, those sites probably have a "18 or older" thing of their own, so Nintendo doesn't need too have 'em.

And MFNB is right, Sony'll just cover their asses with an age check. But I still agree with Arri that this'll be another thing for dumbass parents too blame gaming on. The PS3 wins, and the PS3 fails. The Wii wins, and the Wii fails. Each system has its ups and downs, so STOP FIGHTING! Jeez...

i own a 360, a wii, and a ps3, well not a 360 really anymore, it broke on me and my warranty is out, since 360 only has a 1 month warranty, i love my 1 year warranty for ps3 and it don't even got a problem yet. and i set my wii horizontally so i could set my ps3 on top as a vertical stand.

@Arri: Well obviously, but that's they're form of moderation as to not being sued.

I'm talking about the servers they may personally host for Home. Though it's not a fact that they will do so.

Anyway, @Ganix, Porn sites started updating for usage with the consoles since last year. It's kind of sad, lol.
