    Microsoft pops up at PS3 launch

    Microsoft didn't exactly turn up to wish Sony luck last night, but it did make a few crafty moves to remind everyone that it was doing this over a year ago.

    In England, at Sony's Virgin Megastore London launch, friendly men approached people in the queue offering tired bums a seat. Their fold-out chairs bore the words, "Shouldn't have kept you waiting" with a URL, www.shkyw.org (Really neat website! ) Cheeky!

    Microsoft UK also sent journalists 168 cans of lager with a note declaring that there are better way to spend GBP 146 - the difference in price between Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We were going to take a photograph, but unfortunately they sent them to Eurogamer TV editor Johnny Minkley, and now there are no longer 168.

    Meanwhile in Paris, France, the PlayStation 3 launch took place within sight of the river - and guess what happened to be floating along nearby? Why, a massive riverboat bearing the slogan, "Xbox 360 (heart) you", of course.

    Nice to see the marketing money getting a good work out, then, even if they should have used it all to make people buy Viva Piñata instead.

    I heard they only sold a hand full ps3's like 20ish lol.

    The first person to get the PS3 in UK or somewhere I just read got a Sony Bravia TV if I remember correctly~

    actually, the real fact about the ps3 thing is that EVERYBODY who waited in line in london launch gets a free hdtv, not the first 100 people, but everybody who waited, 120 people waited so they got a free sony bravio plasma hdtv. and lucky those who got free taxi home 'cuz in america, people got shot at to get a ps3

    I really wonder what Sony's strategy is ... seen some cooments and reports saying that Sony is actually making losses for each PS3 produced, and now they are giving out free top-grade TVs; There was internal scuffle within SOny's ranks, positions have to be moved; Sony is losing its foothold as more "exclusive" games float towards other consoles and even the PC ...

    Who are you? Charles Schwab? Wtf do you know about Sony's marketing plan?

    @Ganix, I'm a PS3 fan, but you have to consider how long it took Sony to issue all of those pre-ordered PS3s. =/

    I am assuming you are talking about the one half-way down thats specifically about Austratralia....

    The media over-hyped it because it was so lame. The radio-shows put in fake cheering and the news gathered everyone into a tight group and got only that on camera.

    And then in the UK there was some kind of deal with getting a 24 inch HDTV with each purchase of a PS3 for the first few people or something like that.(a HDTV was involved somehow, that much I know for sure)

    Typical of Microsoft to do stuff like that, trying to take away Sony's thunder because they know the PS3 is gonna kill them, It's kind of annoying really.

    Over the past year since the 360 came out all I ever see from Microsoft is a ton of trash talking about how much better the 360 is, even though Microsoft failed at something Sony excelled in:

    Actually putting Next-Gen Hardware in their Next-Gen Console....>_>
