I got a DS and this game a few weeks back, and it's AMAZING!!! Too bad I accidentally overwrote my file where I was almost at the end of the game. T.T
Here's a short review of the game.
Graphics:
FINALLY! 3D graphics on a handheld!! The graphics aren't GREAT, but pretty good for a handheld. The landscaping is the best part. The areas actually look quite realistic. And in this game, your character's job doesn't just determine their appearance in battle, but also on the field! (Unlike FF5)
Sound:
Great music and sound effects. The music had me humming for hours! The last boss music is probably the best out of all of the FF games. I didn't like the darker final boss themes from FF6, FF7, and FF10. (Personal opinions) I found the music quite infectious.
Gameplay:
FF3 has some gameplay that would be later be used in other FF games. (Mainly the job system) FF3 was the first FF game where you could change your character's job. There are 23 playable jobs. Freelancer, Warrior, Monk, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage, Red Mage, Knight, Viking, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Bard, Ranger, Scholar, Geomancer, Evoker, Black Belt, Devout, Magus, Summoner, Sage, Ninja. (I might be missing a couple) The battles are pretty straightforward. Turn based battles, much like FF1 and FF2, but with one exception: The guest character system. Throughout the story, you will have guest characters join your party alongside Luneth, Arc, Refia and Ingus. Occasionally, during battle, after you input your commands, your guest character will come in and perform an action. Each character has 2 different actions they are able perform. Some characters will attack, others will cast offensive spells, and others will cast supportive spells on your party. Overall, I found the gameplay very enjoyable. If you liked the other FF games, you'll like this one.
I played up to The Forbidden Land, Eureka before the accidental overwriting. Ninja, Sage, Devout, Ninja, all Lv 44. I hope you enjoyed my review. ^^
