Studying in Switzerland - French or German language ?

Going to apply for a degree course in Switzerland at the start of next year at the International Hotel Management Institute (IMI), and I have to go through a language course - either French or German.

Wanna ask you guys, if I grew up in a English educated enviroment, is French or German easier to learn ? And which of these 2 is more frequently used in Switzerland ?

French is easier. However if your first language is english, then I'd actually go with German, because they have the same Germanic Styles


Anyhow, I take German, and it's pretty tough even though my First language is english :P

German is much harder than french because its too alike to english making you confused.

swiss has more of a germanic feel to the language.
I would recomend german because it would help you more in swiss than french

Depends...where are you going to live/work after you're done your schooling? I would personally go for French, but thats just because I live in North America.

My cousin went to Switzerland for hotel manegement too. Dunno which one's easier to learn but they use German in most os Switzerland.

Since my mother is Swiss , I'm educating in both german and french , And half of my mother's family lives in Switzerland , I can tell you french is alot more useful:

1. French is easier to learn.
2. In switzerland they don't speak German , They Speak Switzer-deutsch,
which is really difficult to understand if you just learned german .
3.Germans are well-educated . Most Germans can speak basic english
but most french suck badly in english , so talking french will help in your whole education (Hotel managment).
4. French is a sexy language , German sounds so nazi .
5. and you could also learn Italian , since that's the third language in Switzerland .

1. Bah... French is the worst language, impossible to learn it.
2. That's right. It's German with a strange pronounciation, but it's still German. It's not really hard to understand them.
3. Every German learns at least 2 foreign languages: English, French/Latin, ...
It's a good thing, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't like that.
4. French sounds gay. Sure, if you talk like Adolf Hitler then you sound like a Nazi, but if you talk like a normal German, then not. I don't think that I sound like a Nazi.>_>

Go with french. Its easier to romance ppl with it.
