    Arrow Outline?

Hey I am new to the mmo world and want to make my own mmo from scratch I want to make it in c++(I know very well) in a 2d faux 3d plane...(think ultima online/diablo) I have never worked on a networked game before and I would like some suggestions or an outline as to how I am going to connect my script to a networking engine...
    any help would be appreciated!!!

*Edit* just need a good C++ mmo engine and some tips and im set now thx!

lol this would be flame bait if u wouldnt have said that u knew c++ very well. have u ever made a c++ game before? if not, try small, then work up and up. networking is probably not too easy to learn, so i would use an engine that already has the code for the server. if u be chance find one, post it please im learning c++ too.

oh wait u said from scratch....well i dunno how u would do it from scratch if u dont know how to program networks! i would use arianne http://arianne.sourceforge.net/

not sure how it works or how to use it, but take a look at it anyway!

ty ya I am trying to work it up from scratch im not opposed to using a networking engine but I just dont know how to incorporate it into my program and yes I have made many c++ games just have never made a networked mmo ill pm you if I find one ill post it and ill look into arianne ty again

anyone else have tips / outline advice / etc?

*edit* looked into arianne this is very helpful though it is java based (I have only about 1 years worth of experience in java) so if anyone can find somthing to this extent with a how to like arianne has based in c++ I would love to get my hands on it!

Here's another page that I've found useful.

    http://www.guildcafe.com/Vox/04075-R...O-Anatomy.html

Also, definitely find an engine that suits you. No sense in re-inventing the wheel.

Unless, of course, you like inventing

True, but the only reason I would see for creating an engine from the ground up is if you plan to make something entirely innovative. This is something that's not likely to happen without a significant team with experience in pre-existing engines.

Don't get me wrong, I was originally planning to create a new engine for X-Shift. Eventually though, I realized that it was just my own arrogance, wanting to control every aspect of the project. So now I say, if you wanna make a game, get an engine, grab some libs and get straight to making the game.
