This is a basic guide, to which i hope others will contribute. I should be able to compile several resources that may be helpful as you build your PC.

One thing I must recommend as a Techy is www.newegg.com

They give you all the information you need to match up a processor with the right port and the right ports for your graphics card, AGP8x and PCI Xpress motherboards are labeled, along with Hardware types and RAM type.

Just match it all up and its like building with Legos snapping stuff in.
