Okay.. I was just forced to reformat my computer, making me have to reinstall everything. And the installation disc to my wireless router is missing.. well, broken. So do wireless routers even need to be installed? (I only ask this because I googled it, and found somewhere that they didn't even need to be) And if they do, does anybody know if I can get the installation software online?
My router is a Motorola Wireless Broadband Router WR850G
Any helps appreciated.
edit: Okay, researched it a bit more and I shouldn't need an installation disc. But my problem is, when I run my my cable modem directly to the WAN port of my router it doesn't even read the modem. I get a flashing red light where it says Modem on my router. I've tried with 3 different cords, all which work.
Versions 5.xx of the firmware for that router are apparently buggy as hell (I wouldn't know because I have a linksys router). So the first thing I'd suggest is to try and update the firmware. You can download version 6.1.4 here. If that doesn't work, it also seems people are having some success downgrading to version 4.03 of the firmware available here.
