Reputation: 10I’d admit that I did find this forum by looking for places to post a link to my site. Through I’m not really interested in advertising as I sort of just want like 50 people to play through a while to find allot of the bugs, but I think this forum has a lot to offer as I can always get feedback and help here, so I’m going to stick around
Reputation: 10the fact of the matter is, that this website is a gaming community, full of potential gamers.
For game developers its the perfect oppurtunity to get there game out in the open to its relevant market.![]()
Reputation: 10I don't think there is anything wrong with freewebs as long as your site isn't bare. Yes, I just joinded today but I've also noticed people posting links and leaving. I actually joined to have fun and get some advice. An added bonus to this site is people to beta test when my game is ready! which it won't for a while, but hey, what can I say.
Hi. Here's a simple rule that you could do. If anyone want to post or promote their website, make it a minimum of 5 forum posts (or something). But here's the bad thing...people will sure to spam just to reach that quota.
Or, make that section as section that requires moderation (or approval before post), therefore only a handful of posts would be posted. Requires a bit of work tho, that mod have to find all of those 5 posts to see if they arent spams.
Just my 0.00001 cents.
Reputation: 10i have posted a link to my site but i will be around for a while
I've been around a while, but I haven't been much of a poster :3 (Ever scince I fell in love with one of the MMO's I found) but I do want people to know how wonderful this game is. Decayed of zombies.
btw Akarimas Habbo!
Cya'll soon!
Reputation: 14Yeah the only advertisement I care about is my UO server. But I rather host that for the purpose to offer mmorpgers what they want. I have played so many mmorpgs that lacked a few features but had some good ones. So i took my knowledge of the systems and implimented them on my own server after every game played to make a mmorpg with everything good and hopefully very little bad.
Reputation: 10I will definitely stick around![]()
I might be a newbie to the site and yes I might stick something up about the games I love to play but I am always checking out what is said and how it is said. If there is a new topic area for those who want to do that they why downgrade someone for it just dont visiit it. I really enjoy comments so I have like a zillion forums that I am with so yeah it might seem like I am here and then gone again but I love checking up on everything when I can. But I just dont like bashers. If anyone posts a question pertaining to my game then I will answer that question. If i see a game here I like or someone has a question to a game that I know of then yeah I am going to reply. I just dont have all day to stay on one site.

I saw this thread just after my first post (yes it was a "my site" kind of post).
Well the forum is titled "Shameless Promotion" so I guess I dont loose my sleep![]()
I agree. People posting site urls and leaving sucks. I mean, if you're here for promoting something, at least do it with effort. :3>![]()
Reputation: 10IT has to be admitted I join sites like this to promote a new game a friend and I have developed. We get lots of views but no bites, and I wonder why. However if I see anything interesting on the forums I do browse and post if that is relevant. But sites like this are a godsend for games wanting to test things out with a few players.
Reputation: 10I'm very thankful that places like this one exist, otherwise as new devs we really don't know where to start
Reputation: 10This post is going to be very hard for me to write, because I generally avoid conflict and am not personally very fond of ranting. But still. I will try not to be offensive because offense is not my intention, but I do contain a certain amount of rage and grief, so something might come out that is too extreme. I apologize in advance.
In short, you have a site that draws its existence almost entirely on the work of others. You list things that other people have created. You earn money by letting people advertise themselves, on your site. Perhaps you have another scheme of income that is not apparent, but this can be deduced on a glance. You have a forum, on that forum, you have a group called 'Shameless Promotion' and the greeting thread in that forum you beg people not to shamelessly self promote themselves? So what exactly do you expect? If I pay you to promote myself on the front page, that won't be shameless, for some reason?
Actually I am not surprised. Most of the pages like yours have a forum like that and some kind of declaration like that posted on the head of somesuch forum. In a system where nothing may be achieved without self promotion, the free kind of self promotion is declared 'shameless'. We, the developers of games, are supposed to 'contribute' into your already vast pool of replies, commentaries and forum posts which you have millions of, in order to 'gain ourselves the right to promote something we created with our own blood, sweat and tears'. Well, thanks a lot for that. What do you think is easier, collect a 1000 of things that something else created and create a list of them, or actually *create* those things? What would you collect if all the people creating those things one day said 'I have enough of this s**t and I'm never gonna create another thing for you ever?'
I make games because some crazy nerve in my brain is pretty much forcing me into doing so. It's an impulse. I have to create to feel normal. This is my personal problem of course, but it's a proven fact that many people actually enjoy the things that I create. Of course since I don't make mainstream stuff, I make something I feel that has to be made, I don't get that much attention. Actually, the attention that I get is below the critical mass required for a creation to spread, sadly. My only choice, to be blunt, is basically to walk around all the billions of people living in this world, door to door, simply to find the people that like what I do. People still enjoy what I create, which I think grants me the 'licence' to try creating more, there's just not enough of them for the process to catalyze and start running on its own. Does that mean that what I do and try to do in order to spread my work, is somehow shameless?
I have long time ago discovered that I cannot sustain myself on making games. I create games that appeal to a very limited public, and though I could have earned enough for a living even if each person that ever played a game of mine gave me a dollar for that, the system and the economy in which we live in does not allow me that. Which is why I make and give away my games for free. I can barely scrape enough resources to make a living month to month, and every moment I can waste is spent on creation of what I love, and what many other people appear to like. So for me not to be shameless in this situation I have to what? Promote myself on your forum first, prove that I am 'worthy' by wasting time on chat that could better be spent on making another game? Because I am a lowly parasite, having made a game for free and now 'leeching on your vast popularity' selling myself like some kind of prostitute to actually make it possible for people to experience that game? What kind of attitude is that? Oh, but if I coughed up some dollars for actual promotion that would make me shameless?
Come on. What's shame got to do with all this rotten mess anyway?
I believe when this thread was made 7 years ago, you could ask to have your site listed on OnRPG.
Now I believe it costs a few hundred dollars to have your site listed, so this thread is obsolete. I don't mind people posting their game sites. But if you are going to link to a youtube channel or a personal blog, then it's shameless promotion.
Can this thread be use to promote guild recruiting of a free 2 play game? o:
Reputation: 490Ah thanks....do you know any mod? xD
Reputation: 10Don't worry, I'll make sure to be somewhat active on these forums!![]()
I was gonna do that until I read the forums :/ Sorry for having that mindset.
I dont copy and paste, though. I actually type it out in the compose section and do it that way. Hopefully, my computer savy husband can figure it out for me lol.
