Wii Zapper's latest competitor: the Rifle Gun Prop
If Nintendo's unveiling of the Wii Zapper at the recent E3 Media & Business summit wasn't enough to get your trigger finger a-twitching, then perhaps you might like to consider a more streamlined alternative from a third party instead. The Rifle Gun Prop from DealExtreme offers exactly the same functionality as the Wii Zapper, but also ensures you'll look even more like a professional bounty hunter at the same time.
Like the Zapper, the Wii Remote slots snugly onto the top of the gun, whilst the Nunchuck hides away in the handle. Its features include a lock and load system for quick bullet switching between rounds; an ergonomically balanced and weighted Blaster control system; and a design that allows for either single banded trigger grip or, for more intense action, a dual-handed barrel grasp.
Admittedly it doesn't look as robust as Nintendo's official shooty-shooty peripheral, but if you're really squeezed for cash, the Rifle Prop Gun costs $16.58 USD, a whole $3.42 USD less than its rival (which will retail at $20.00 USD, maths fans).
There's probably going to be a hundred and one Wii Zapper-alikes arriving in the coming months, but as the first to attempt it, albeit with a design that looks suspiciously similar to the prototype Zapper Nintendo first displayed at E3 2006, the Rifle Gun Prop looks to offer a viable alternative.
