Default Should i upgrade to Ubuntu??

Ok i'm currently running XP Pro SP2. Do you guys think i should upgrade to Ubuntu? But before i begin i have some questions.

    • If I download Ubuntu from the official site, can I do the box spinning thing with my desktop?
    • I always see on the ads that, Linux can not get affected by most viruses, spyware, adware, etc? Does this apply to Ubuntu?
    • Can most of my programs work on the Ubuntu system?? I'm a gamer so I'm practically asking can ALL my games work on the Ubuntu System
    • Do you recommend Ubuntu?

Well with Ubuntu unlike Windows you're always working with the system files so if you mess up one thing then you're screwed and have to reinstall. I personally don't recommend it. You also need to type the commands to even extract files from things like .zip correct me if I'm wrong.

Theres OS which has the spinning box thingymabob installed ready... (I forgot the name again, I need to work on my memory )

and all your games cant work on it, you dont have directX, and I never myshelf tried how GameGuard works with my Ubuntu... I have feeling that theres no way it will work.

Why Linuxes and Mac:s dont get viruses, most people use Windows so for those who make them (them=viruses) its better to make virus for windows than Mac.

I suggest you get something like Slackware, I'm not a fan of Ubuntu. You can also duel boot between Windows and Linux.

    2. Yes, you get no spyware or viruses. You migh get a rootkit installed on your computer, but thats not a likely occurence,
    3. Like Squek2 said, WINE.

You COULD try it though, just back up your windows if you install ubuntu. you can always get pro help on the forums. I'm not saying "Dont do it" Im just saying unless you want to be frustrated and spend more time messing around in your comp then enjoying it, or getting comp smarter. itd be better off untouched.

Short answer? No, don't install Ubuntu. You clearly know nothing about it and it will end in tears.

Download an Ubuntu Live CD from their site, burn it to a disk and boot into it. It won't write anything to your hard drive and you can't **** up your computer. If you install it, you will **** up your computer.

I have used Beryl before, it's currently in Beta (although it should be Alpha) and is extremely unstable. It may look cool, but you will get bored of it after five minutes if you do manage to get it to work.

Don't think it will be easy for you, you'll be using the command prompt/terminal A LOT and it will be very frustrating for the first time you use it.

Download a Live CD, read some tutorials, post on the very helpful Ubuntu forums. But for **** sake don't install it!

its not a P-O-S. it's just not ment for people who aren't the best at computers. It can completely out perform windows if you knew how... best to read tutorials and learn before you do anything though.
