I still didn't really understand your rant...are you complaining about point and click in GENERAL? Or just those games that bound AUTO ATTACK to your click? Like click once, and it'll attack. I personally think some sort of point and click is needed for all 3D/3rd POV games, simply because you're looking down at your character, not through him. This is just PC games, and the control and feel of a keyboard + mouse/through a keyboard + mouse is different from a controller.
Because most MMORPGs I play/played, clicking is merely an action to properly choose your target. There are games that let you target the closest mob to you with a keyboard Button, but to properly choose your own target, you'd need to click. Still, to kill it you'll have to smash some buttons.
The reason why MS doesn't have point and click, I think, is because it can't. It's a top and bottom, side to side, game interface, theres no third axis to that screen. You control movement with the arrow keys, because I doubt using the mouse to move around is productive. Most 3d MMORPG makes use of the mouse to control the camera, therefore they just make more use out of it.
Well..with that said, most of the new generation of western MMORPGs aren't just simply point and click. You might need to get yourself out of that asian market, because in Asia, gamers just need to play and endorse themselves in a game. TO them, point and click is like..home, it's natural.
There's LOS issues in WoW where you can maneuver your character around a spell, and new combat systems are coming out for other games like WAR/AoC/GnH.
Also, I seriously can't think of a game where I just click a monster and "turn away" from the screen. I might not have played any of them...but I can't come up with any at the top of my head.
