In the manga is says if you use the death note you cant go to heaven or hell, then ryuk laughs and says, because there is no heaven or hell
Then it sorta shows a empty void landscape..
Then it goes into like some cult gathering asking for Kira to return..

In the series, on the last episode, at the break slides (you know the ones that say the rules of the DeathNote). The final rule about the DethNote was revelead as two parts.
1) (you know this one) He who uses the DeathNote cannot attain Heavan nor Hell.
2) That which awaits those who have used the DeathNote is Nothingness.

Let me correct myself, I just went back to watch the part. It says:
1) All humans, without exception, eventually die.
2) After they die, the place they go is MU (Nothingness)
Simply put, its the same philosophy that keeps poping up in animes like this. "Those who have excessive power to change the world can never be allowed to live in the new world which they have created."

I finished reading the manga, i think things will be more interesting. Questions like "Will Kira return etc?" will now surface. And who's that girl in white? Is it Misa?
