Is the storyline in final fantasy VII good ?

Hello i'm thinking about buying final fantasy VII since i almost got emotionally attached to Final fantasy x becuse the storyline was amazing. I like the thing between Tideus and Yuna and the thing i wonder is if there is any so called love in the VII i know this sounds lame but please someone who knows this so please reply asap i really want to know ! /// Rownie

I despised VII's story. Square left a large number of plot holes for no apparent reason, and then, thanks to constant fanboy demand, created more craptastic games, a movie, and a couple novellas(or so I've heard). One thing it got VERY right though was character backgrounds. Everybody had a back story of some form. One last note, the materia system sucked as far as I care.

VIII had my favorite story, and I LOVE the junction system, though it is kind of broken(to say the least). Though it did have its fair share of plot holes as well, though I enjoy trying to fill them in more than VII's.

To each their own and whatnot though. You may damn well love VII and detest VIII like many people. It all has to do with personal preference.

I believe that the FF VII storyline was OK, but the reason why it is so popular, is because the characters were memorable do to the fact that their weapons/attitude were something that was completely new to the single player RPG world
