Default Is using your "reformating disk" on two computers consider pirating?

I been using my window xp "home edition" on two computer once because my laptop didn't come with a recovery disk. I heard that some people consider this pirating but I pay and bought to use every right I have for that disk.

So is there any precaution I should take for using the disk?

    You paid for one license.
    That means one use.
    So yes, it's essentially pirating.

    Enough with the topics already.

No, I pay for full use..... I should be able to use it forever I want. Actually, when you buy something, you should be able to use it for how many time you like.

No, that's where a copyright comes in.
They have reserved the rights to the program but have sold you one license to use only one time.
    One disc = one license.

Therefore you did not pay for full use. You paid for a one-time use.

All the more reason why they'd take it to court.

They'd sue them if they could catch them. Everyone knows Microsoft is greedy. (Somewhat ironic..)

Microsoft is not going to sue private citizens, mainly simply because, unless your rich, it would be throwing money down a black hole, never to be found again. It would cost more to persecute you then they would receive in reparations for breaking the copywrite. If anything, they go after organizations and businesses who "misuse" the software because they can actually make a profit off the endeavor. It's the same reason bit-torrent users rarely, if ever, get sued for downloading music. What would be the point?

So while, yes, you are breaking the law, but as long as you don't broadcast the fact, and your not exponentially rich, you shouldn't have much to worry about.

First, people, stop your bitching. As long as they aren't spam and pointless, it's alright to post topics. Theres no rule against posting topics. So stop your bitching.

Anyway, it's like this. You didn't buy the software. Microsoft actually doesn't sell software.
What they sell is the right to USE software. When you buy a disk, what you are paying for is not the CD, but the license to use it. The license states that it may be installed on one system. So to legally install it on another system, you need to buy another license. MS controllers this by requiring you to validate the software. There can only be one valid copy at a time. An invalid copy will be unable to get a lot of updates, thus making it a lot less secure from any new viruses and Trojans.

If you caught someone they would definitely sue, just as a warning to other people.

no, I mean windows updates. The updates for the operating system that allow it to patch any security holes that are found and fixed.
There is a point in the windows updates that an invalid copy of XP will no longer retrieve new updates until you validate it. You validate one install, and it will make the other install invalid.

Actually, there are ownership rights inside of the Millenium act as well. For one, we, as the softwares owner, have the right to use said property on any other property we own. Game companies say you can't do this, but it's a violation of your rights. It's a violation if your software is installed on a machine outside of your reach.

Now, however, as FabianN said, Microsoft sells licenses, not software (unlike game and most program manufacturers). Each license has a strict set of guidlines shich, upon use, are required to be followed; such as the max amounts of machines the license covers.
-Another example of this is online games where you can freely obtain the software. You buy the right to play that game.

Now, of course, everything changes when it involves a company.

well, the main difference of what you and me said is that you did not specify that you don't but the software, but the license, which is what Kleenex3 did not understand. Software can still come with licenses, but in most cases it's the software you are buying, not the license.
And like ncyphe said, you have legal rights on software that you buy to install it on as many of your own computers as you wish.
