yes. It will have a single player component, as well as a free multiplayer component, similar to Diablo II. However, there will be an option to pay a subscription for "Elite" status. This entitles you to more character slots, a bigger shared item bank, use of Elite items, as well as ongoing new content. The optional subscription will cost about 8 bucks a month, I think.

Edit: Oh, and it will be Buy to Play.

I don't have the money to preorder it, unfortunately, so I can't take part in the Closed Beta.

Developers and companies need to get some income somehow, besides from just buy to play. Especially if they are going to keep updating and adding new content. Makes a lot of sense. :]

So I'm willing to pay the easily affordable 8 bucks a month to a great game.

Ok, few notes.

1) Fury and HG:L are $10 a month for P2P (Fury == immortal, HG:L == Elite)
2) Fury and HG:L offer just about the same things for their subscribers, except that Fury players get shafted from that start
Fury Offers:
* Quick travel in the Sanctuaries and Schools
* VoIP talk privileges
* One additional Item Roll Slot
* Extended “rested gold bonus”
* Selling privileges on the Auction House
* Priority log-in queuing
* Entry into weekly and seasonal Ladders
* Personal player battle statistics
* In-game Customer Service access
* Elite access to the test server to preview new content
AND New content (crafting, player housing, special Clan functionality and lots more.) WHEN it is added.

HG:L offers:
* Regular content updates, small ones every month and large ones every three months. (ie. new quests, dungeons, weapons, monsters, etc. that can only be accessed by elite players.)
* Elite content will access higher
* Can create guilds. (and be leaders in guilds)
* 24/7 Cust. Supp.
* More character slots/larger shared stash
* Additional play modes, hardcore, pvp, rp, etc..
* Hopefully there will never be server ques but -if- there are then elites get priority.
* Can use ‘elite’ items. It should be noted that elite items are not more powerful/unbalanced items but rather have flashier appearances or simply new items that still fit in the overall balance scheme.

Basically, you get new content/more player slots/Better bank for $10 (oh, and bypass server queues).

That being said.

I will buy HG:L, I might pay for Elite, I might not.

It depends on how much I like the game, and what type of new content there is.

lol and then with new content - people with premium accounts will get newer items that basic accounts wont be able to have - but they will have the 'used' toys :P

So I thought the beta was open however, yesterday I got the preorder from gamestop, entered my code, and it is telling me they "will contact me when the beta opens." Wasn't it supposed to open on the 20th of september or something? Also I cant event log into thier website to check the forums, I keep getting the same message about them telling me when the beta opens.

and NDA is a Nondisclosure Agreement.

Basically it states what you are and are not allowed to talk about out side of approved areas (aka the beta forum in this case).

NDAs are used whenever there is sensitive data that the owners do not want spread around. Be it a Beta test, working for a company, or anything.

For Betas it is b/c they don't want anything except OFFICIAL publicity. The reasoning is that if some one starts babbling about how it is broken, or it looks horrible, or what not, they have a problem, especially if you are not looking at a final product, and those problems are going to be addressed.

In earlier stages the NDA is there so that the ideas of the game remain safe.
