hooked on skate.
So skate. comes out today and well I might just buy it.
I've currently hooked on the PS3 demo (is there a demo for the 360 version?) and I must say that this game is absolutely insane. It's fun, it's challenging, and most importantly it's more realisitic. While I miss the tony hawk style of hopping on rails and being to flawlessly hop from one rail to another, this game puts me in my place. The hype this game is recieving is definitely worth it and if you haven't already checked it out it's probably a good idea that you do.
Favorite Trick: Pop Shove It + Late BS Pop Shove It. It's so cool because it looks your skater is like stationary but the board goes in a circle like 3 times.
Hardest Trick: Kickflip + Frontflip Coffin. I must say that it is really cool seeing my guy go to coffin whilist in the air and with the flip, it's really cool because you don't seem him do it much because the board blocks it out. I can do a backflip coffin but it's alot less consistant than the front flip. I can also consistantly double kickflip on flat land. I can do a triple kick flip off of a ramp of some sort but for some reason I tend to go to Quad Kickflip instead of trip and I never land a quad.
That's just me. Anybody else played with skate. and pulled off some stuff you thought you'd never do when you first started.
It's quite a cool game, the visuals are stunning(at least compared to Proving Ground), the controls were also pretty cool, but a tad complicated. As it's a Sim, I may just rent it, instead... EA's entry in Skate videogames is definitely more than a copy of Activision's franchise. I still dig Arcadey Skate more than Sim, but yeah, Skate's a good game.
I downloaded it last night and had a single run through with the game. Aside from the fact that I suck at it, really REALLY badly, it's fun and I know if I could get used to the controls it would be worth it.
I love Skate for its realism. You can't just pull off random 900's like in THPS. :P
The control scheme is pretty innovative, too. Instead of holding X to push, you tap Square or X a few times and your good. Grinding isn't Triangle, you can just just Ollie onto the railing, and instead of directing falling onto the floor, your actually sliding off the rail if you aren't balanced. The moves you can pull off with the Right Analog Stick is as interactive as it comes, no more Squares and Triangles to do moves. The camera angle is also pretty cool.
Even though it was supposed to be released yesterday for PS3, the douche bag at EBGames wouldn't give my brother his copy when he went to pick it up. Hopefully today he'll return successful, or we might have to kick a little ass up at the mall.
