If words matter so much to you, then go read poems.
To some people, me included, vocals is just another instrument, and good lyrics is a mere bonus. When I was little, I usually just listened to pure instrumental music, and since I started listening to music with vocals, never once has lack of comprehension made my exprience of a song any less.
I listen to both english, french, japanese and norwegian music. I also have various stuff in italian and latin.

To clear up a few things in regards to japanese music:
It's the second largest music industry in the world, after america, so you shouldn't take it too lightly. To think that it's generally worse than american music is blatanty false. In terms of sound quality, variety, and originality(even in terms of what is considered mainstream), japan is far ahead of america.
So if you don't have issues with language barrier, i suggest you try some of it out.
There is a whole other world out there in terms of music. To be biased, sit on your ass and just ignore the enormous amount of great non-english bands out there is plain ignorance...
And yea, I know japan is being hyped lately, seemingly no matter what the hell is being talked about, but when talking about music, i would say the same for any country. It isn't just english music that is good. Plenty of good non-english bands out there.
