Maple Story because it's so damn addicting.
Everyone and their mom played it.
It's like crack for the internet.

In terms of Bounded (within it's licensed country[ies]) Fame, Maple Story is the most popular North American MMO next to RuneScape.
In terms of WorldWide Fame, SilkRoad has got MapleStory beat. I've never seen so many Europeans, Africans, Asians, and Latinos in one online game in my life.
Those commercials for MS are so damn lame.
Reputation: 10^and the amount of classes and skills available in the game. How many? 1 x 4 + 8 + 10 + the fourth jobs are in development. The average number of skills for every class is at least 10. That's a lot of classes and skills for players to grind towards achieving them. Furthermore most skills take at least 20 skill points to maximize and it takes up to 30 skill points later. I know that keeps me busy.
Reputation: 27Nexon is starting to promote KartRider now. I saw KartRider on the back cover of GameInformer issue 175. o_o
Reputation: 10MS wins the popularity contest and silkroad wins the good gameplay contest.
Reputation: 198Regardless of their popularity, both games are made by Korea. So I guess certain korean games break the generic-asian game barrier from time to time~
I mean....if MS and SRO were both another of those countless mmorpgs that korea released and sent it overseas, then they wouldn't be this popular...would they?
Reputation: 27MapleStory is definitely more popular. Silkroad is more for the hardcore people.
I hate both the games though. <.< Horrible communities and grindy as hell.
Reputation: 10Obviously maplestory but I have so much hatred against it. It's boring, repititive, and DID I FORGET TO MENTION BORING?
Most pre-teens or lower (and sometimes older) play maplestory, which is why it's popular. It's true, the maplestory commercials are pretty much dumb and shouldn't air. Sadly, it was aired in the news a couple times (one of them was why kids we're stealing their parents Credit Card to buy Nexon cash, how addictive it is that its effecting grades, etc)
SRO however, is basically for teens & up.
my friend's grandmom plays it.
