    Default steam question

If you buy a game from say walmart, and it's single player that uses steam. do you have to connect to you steam account. Basically I'm asking if my internet connection goes can i play games like half life.

    Yes and no.

You need to go online the first time to validate the client and unlock the client; however, once you do that, you can go into your setting and set your Steam account to work in off-line mode (has to be done while online, though).

Yes, but you only get this option if you have it enabled in you account settings; other wise it will tell you you need to go online and change those seetings before you can play in off-line mode.
