    Default Who actually knows....

the difference between past tense and present tense and plural and non plural. Seriously, I've read the forums a lot today and all I could see are a lot of grammar mistakes.(Past Tense,Present Tense-Plural,non plural)No i'm not claiming i'm perfect. I won't be throwing a fit if someone makes a grammar mistake but holy fecking jesus. So many grammar mistakes I doubt whether they actually go to school or not. This isn't a flame thread since I won't mention any names . I got a question for the general community of ONRpg. Do you know the difference between past tense, present tense and plural, non plural.

EDIT: Yes I know I will get banned and flamed for this but this question is the question I always wanted answered.I'm so curious I can't even take it anymore.

Yes, I did know the differences between past and present tenses.

Why are you going to ask?

There is SO many people that don't know. I want to know how many of you don't know. That is my question. Weird question, yes But I want to have a list of the people that don't know so I can spam their Private MEssage box with grammar lessons.
I just die a little inside every time I see really bad grammar.

EDIT:@ Arri I don't know some people take this as indirect flaming at their english.

I don't know what they are. I just type what I think sounds right.

Also, OP forgot some comma's, capitalization, and has some run-on sentences in his first post. You just lost the game.

So? The first two don't affect communication over the internet at all, and run on sentences only mildly. However, mixing up your tenses can really confuse people, so it's actually worth bothering about.

well thats true but its really annoying when you have a long ass sentence like this where you think its going to end and it never ends and you dont know when to pause because theres no commas or anything and some people like me kind of read the sentence with our mouths and by the end of the post im out of breath you know

Just be glad we even use grammar. Would you rather have us type like this?

yea lik dude last week me and my frends went 2 da store and got us some pizza it tasted so good.

Also yes I do have trouble with commas. I never use them. I'd be glad to learn though.

Whether or not it's annoying is irrelevant, unless that's the intent of the poster. Generally, the language of the post is meant to communicate something, and is a means to an end. Besides, this is the internets, so you're going to get annoyed by a lot of stuff, anyway.

Generally speaking, I don't think it matters.

In the last debate though (over Iraq), for instance, alot of people were being really sloppy with grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, to the point where it became hard to figure out what they were even saying. I think that's a problem. In a debate, if your message is unclear because of sloppy grammar etc. I'm going to get frustrated and annoyed, and think that your opinion probably isn't worth reading anyway. I will then proceed to either skim through very quickly or completely skip over your post.

If a post has proper grammar and spelling, people will think that persons more mature and they will take the post more seriously. So if you like to look like a 12 year old ********* away at the keyboard, go for it. At least that's how I look at people who type with bad grammar.

Like I said, normally I have no problem with bad grammar on this forum. It's to be expected.

When people are debating something, though, they should make sure that they're using proper grammar, because otherwise they look ******ed.

... and of course I make allowances for people whose first language isn't English. That doesn't apply to the vast majority of posters, though.

Also, I don't use proper grammar to "appear better than people." Are you saying that I should purposely insert spelling mistakes and grammar errors into my writing or something?

nah course not, i didnt mean for it to be a blanket term for everyone. im just saying, expect typos, expect bad grammar (especially punctuation) and expect some pleb somewhere to try to use spelling ability and grammar as their main argument to try to belittle another user when in reality... it really isnt that important here.

if i see someone posting with consistently good grammar i think "that person has good grammar" but i dont think " that person must be really smart and now i am going to suck up to them and try to get them to think i am just as smart and cool as they are".

Well, you forgot to capitalize those "i"'s, and you should "have" a question, not "got" one. If your gonna play the "I'm pissed off at grammar" card, be sure not to do things like that.

Sorry, I HAD to. In actuality, I whole heartedly agree with you. What can we do though? b4 ppl lrn 2 graammar rite, dey ned 2 stop typing liek dis.
