Default Any "Garage Games" become sucessfull?

I see tonnes of development threads as I lurk all over the internet on these forums and several different MMORPG Engine sites (e.g VBGore) and none of them seem to be particularly booming. I'm guessing the idea of these home-made games is a tight, small community, but have any games actually become sucessfull and big? Possibly even bringing in an anual turnover?

I'd love to hear some sucess stories as me and a few friends were thinking of taking this on. Hit me with your best enlightenment/inspiration.

Endless-Online? It was sort of just a thing started by a small group of people and it's pretty big now (I mean, for a small project). Although they don't make any money; they refuse to take any donations.

Not sure of anything else. Even that game isn't all that big...

They probably refuse taking money because they use RPG Maker XP graphic, and so far I know you can't make online games with RPG Maker XP. (It's illegal to "sell"/get paid for things you hasn't done)
