Default The Results Of Jephs Dumpster Diving: Issue #1

Well, after multiple successful dumpster diving sessions, I've decided to share my findings with you guys. If this generates lots of attention, I will try to post one up once a week.

    Background:

My school is on one side of town, my moms work place on the other. So, when I get detention for whatever reason, I end up walking over to her work after school to get a ride home. On my way, I pass through multiple industrial parks, and walk behind them. My friend H-Town and I decided to look in a dumpster one day, and found a whole bunch of old Maxim magazines. Thus starting a new hobby for me: Dumpster diving. Yeah, I know it sounds horrible. And, it is prolly. I'm not sure if its legal or not. I usually find some really good stuff. No, I don't dig through rotting food to find stuff, the dumpsters with food products in them are clearly marked.

    This week:

So, heres what I found in a blockbuster dumpster. Its a window ad for Transformers the movie. Its huge! (I think 5 feet by 4 feet) Its not a normal poster, its vinyl, and really sturdy. I dunno, this could even be worth money some day! But for now, its on a wall in my room. Enjoy :P

Edit: Yes, that IS a picture of me (on my mirror) as a baby (in a walker) with a box of Miller Lite. Thanks for noticing ;D

Edit2: Yeah, I know the "Transformers" part was supposed to go on the bottom...but, I liked it better so its up top.

Well, it's certainly an "interesting" hobby you have there. But by the looks of things, you've found some very cool stuff! Sounds quite vile in theory though.

Haha. Yeah, H-Town. We figured out its short for "Hollywood", which suits him wonderfully. He looks just like Silent Bob, so, you can see why.

I know, its sounds horrible. The dumpsters we look in are usually just cardboard and plastic. We looked in the movie theater one once, and found a garbage bag full of popcorn Actually, in the Radio Shack dumpster, I've found a HP Photosmart printer (that works!) and a whole bunch of Universal Remotes.

My friend...well, I'd rather not post his name or place of business, for security sake...works at a store, and says theres lots of "damaged containers" of beer in the back room, and they just throw them away. He's gonna give me a call so I can go pick it up in a car Lol, YAY FREE STUFF!

just card and plastic? that sounds alot better. id question anyones sanity on here who goes through rotting food stuffs.

did you eat the popcorn? my roomate once threw away a kebab in our bin one night because he felt too sick to eat it. then the next morning at about 2pm he went through our bin, retrieved said kebab and consumed the contents of the styrofoam container. the smell was less than apetising.

I wasn't gonna comment on that...now I have to. Lol. No, I didn't eat it. But, we were all really tempted to. We were gonna bring it to school, and sell it...but, we ended up just throwing it on the roof and laughing at it.

Best Buy, Radioshack, Blockbuster, any electronic stores really. I bet they all have good stuff. OH! And Target. You can TRY stores like Price Chopper and the like, but, no guarantees.

In an industrial park you usally wont find disgusting things such as food and other waste a lot. Your bound to find more useful, or entertaining, shit.

It is legal too so don't worry about that. Once it hits the bin they give up any rights they had to it I believe.

It's quite interesting actually, their was a show on History channel a few days ago about Acid (Modern Marvels) and it was talking about a company that takes stuff from the junk and gets the rare metals from it (Not the companies that use software to get the gold). But on an average they get about 12500 dollars worth of Pt (Platnium) in a 200lbs thing of specific junk. It is amazing at how much money they make from taking apart the junk that has platnium in it.
But yeah I would feel like a hobo too.

Lol. Theaters actually have those things given to us for free, so when the movie comes out, we just trash them. Sure some of claim them, but most hit the dumpster.

I usually take claim on anything that has lights in them. I have 5 of the 7 lights (good lights) that cam out of a "Underworld 2" standee, and the lights from the remote control standee of "Click."

Over a year ago, my theater had this nice standee for MI3 which featured two strobes that made a picture of a match look like it was being lit. I wanted them so badly, but it got trashed before I got to it.

Hint: I great place to find great trash is a Theater, but you have to be careful, as a theater not only has great stuff, but a lot of stuff you'd rather not get on your hands.

Lol. I'm super surprised at how well everyone is taking this. Hell yeah. I will try to find some more stuff, and make issue number two. Even if I can't find anything this week, I've got a stack of a certain *something* that I can post next Sunday. :3

I know its not "worth money" in the sense that Blockbuster had to pay to get it. I think it will be worth money in like 10 years, when we are at "Transformers XI"...and some nerd wants to buy the promotional poster from the original movie xD Its worth money in the sense that Pokemon cards are worth money. You hold them, hoping the value will come up someday...but, you know deep inside-it never will.

Fair warning. Those things are VERY prone to tears, though they're really snaps. I can barely pull them the damn things off the windows when we change 'em without them breaking.

Also. Next time, see if they're any destroyed discs. They may not work, but they're damn fun to throw around when you're bored. Another thing to watch for are the large cardboard displays. I have Will Ferrel's and John Heder's heads in my trunk right now. I missed the Saw IV display by a day though. Damn that sucked.

Last bit now. I have you beat. I actually got an old printer out of our dumpster. Not sure who left it there. Now we have the old heater from our roof in there. Wish I could pull that beast out.

Check out "The Herb Thread" and see how much I take law into account. Rofl.

And yeah...I know they snap easy. It pissed me off, cause it kept sticking to itself while I was trying to put it up. Notice the tacks above Optimus Primes head. Those are there because I ripped it almost in half. Lol.
