making a video

I have a homework assignment where I have to make something dealing with "tom turkey" I decided to use oblivion, even if there isn't turkeys. But I have a few problems:

I have no way to capture it: I was thinking of using fraps, but I was wondering if you guys know of a better software.

I have no way to edit it: I was also wondering if there are any decent free video editing softwares. I don't want anything fancy, just adding sound and such.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

If you're going to use Windows Movie Maker, save often, it seems to crash a lot if you've got a lot of stuff going on.
