Just a rumor.
It is a rumor.

I used to work at an EB and I know that isn't true. Though we were told to recommend games to customers.

Example: If some likes Super Mario we recommend the customer the most current title in the Mario series for whatever system they have (i.e. if they have a Wii it'd Super Mario Galaxy).

Plus we were allowed to let someone try out a game they are interested in on one of the demo systems.

You can't fire someone due to a customer's opinion. That's too unethical, can create lawlsuits, etcetera.

Yes, it is true that Gamestop has its share of unethical practices, but nothing that harsh.

Now say if the employee was treating the mystery shopper like shit, then yes they would get fired. But those shoppers actually aren't hired by Gamestop, they're hired by a third party company. They send in the "customer", they ask for help from one of the employees and take note of their actions, go home and write a review of the employee, send it to Gamestop's HR (or whoever is in charge of hiring/firing people) and they decide from there.
