Blizzard confirms 'next gen' MMO, no its not WoW2.

Blizzard has offered very brief confirmation that it's working on a new massively multiplayer online game.

Gossip about a new MMO from the World of Warcraft developer kicked off following new job ads appearing on the developer's website for positions on a "Next-Gen MMO".

"No, it is an unannounced Next-Gen MMO", the developer has said on WoW forums in response to speculation.

"And that doesn't mean an expansion for World of Warcraft either", a Blizzard spokesperson added.
Blizzard explained following the merger of its parent company Vivendi with Activision that it remains focused on PC development for now, so we're guessing that "Next-Gen" doesn't refer to the new console generation.

And with World of Warcraft the massive success that it is, somehow we can't see Blizzard developing a WoW 2. So that leaves Diablo and StarCraft. Unless, of course, it's taken an Activision property on board. Let's assume it's either StarCraft or Diablo. Which would you rather seen turned into an MMO?

In other news, Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime has been inducted into The Hall Of Fame Of The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.

Morhaime is the eleventh games industry figure to be inducted, joining Trip Hawkins, Peter Molyneux, Yu Suzuki, Will Wright, John Carmack, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Sid Meier, Shigeru Miyamoto, Richard Garriott and Dan Bunten.

Not old actually, as far as I know till now it were only rumors, with Blizzard denying any making of a new mmorpg.


With the huge fanbase Diablo has I expect it to be Diablo.
I know Starcraft has a huge fanbase too, but it is not as qualified for an mmorpg as Diablo is. Nor would many of its fans appreciate it being turned into one.

It was expected as the graphic quality of WoW doesn't measure up to most of current mmorpgs. Nor does the content really. Eventually they'd be losing customers.

This won't come out for another 2 years I bet though. By then WoW will be in the decline enough for Blizzard to need a new mmorpg to obtain same profits as it has been doing these past years.

That links doesn't even mention a new mmo coming up. It just talks about upcoming blizzard games and about that they're not even thinking about WoW2 yet.

Eh... I am just tired of these damn WoW posts (or Wow affiliated). Especially in a F2P section. Its doesnt belong here and it should be moved to the proper section. Not unless Blizzard announced a F2P MMORPG. The only other time I should see a P2P MMORPG thread in this section is if its in the alpha/beta stages of testing.

I like the F2P more than the other sections cause of that reason..... but then you got morons who want to compare WoW to F2P games.....why?

As for the upcoming project, I hope its not an adaptation of one of the pre-existing Blizzards games. They need something new.

sounds good. But I really doubt it'll be out until 2010, considering that Wrath of Lich King is coming out late next year and Starcraft 2 sometimes next year. By then we'll see whether AoC and Warhammer Online are worth playing.

And I doubt WoW will die. As far as I know, Everquest is still alive and kicking. And check out UO and Runescape.

Well, if you think about it, isn't it a good thing that f2p games are being compared to p2p ones? (Would be better if they were in the right section) At least it's some sorta sign that the standard of f2p MMOs is climbing.

Sometimes, I feel we have ridiculous expectations for f2p games though.

The same people don't work on different games. There are teams for each game. Plus, they aren't greedy. They're making a game.
