I see that you're new. We've had this argument on these boards quite a bit, and it always devolves into the kind of vicious and pointless argument argument where two people are quoting each other in page long posts which no one but them reads.

Reputation: 28Racism is never acceptable, but it might be logical from time to time.
amongst friends we sometimes laugh at racist jokes but i dont consider myself a racist. everyone does that once in a while, who can honestly say they have never done that? not very many people i bet.
but there is a big difference between telling a racist anecdote in jest and running out into the street yelling abuse at someone for the sole purpose of making them feel threatened/intimidated.
commence huge mega-post quote wars!
Reputation: 677For it to be racism, it needs one thing which is intent.
Therfore it is always bad, besides the intent is to make a joke, where it can be ok if, one of the "joked upon" group is present and representing the group, is okay with it.
In a discussion, one should avoid to try to disproove an argument by calling it racisst in my oppinion, if its possible, because thats a very emotionaly charged response, which can be assumed to be a cheapshot for the winning.
Don't do racism, m'kay.
i bet theres lots of people who class racism as "saying bad things about black people" but they wouldnt hesitate for a second to discriminate against fat people, religious people, freakishly tall/short people, ugly people, disabled people.
in a way all discrimination is the same sa racism since its singling out an individual or group based (usually) on physical attributes which they largely have no control over.
but we all still do it.
Reputation: 10Acually i have lurked here, well, it goes back to your OLD forums, for many years now. I just always lurked. I am going back to college now so I said hell, might as well register and have some fun.
However, I am very sure this has been butchered here as well as everywhere else. However mine isnt to incite any kind of win or side.
I mean.. i could just be doing this so later on when someone corners me with a arguement, and they say something here but different in another thread, I have a retort! Yet very unlikely and not my style.
No.. I asked this because I have read and seen lately the ignorance by some of the members here on their viewpoints. I phrased the topic for that very reason. It is rather amusing to see some people make a racial remark in a thread and it be ignored, usually because of the rule of thumb, and acually be at the end of the remark!
This is more of a game on my end to see if anyone even realizes what it is. Regardless of the perspectives given, i wont hold nothing personal agaist anyone here, or retort it in a new thread. I just am insanely curious.
EDIT:
Some people say something beautiful on a forum and never even understand their own words.
At the same time, a beautiful person can say something truely ugly and never realize it.
Reputation: 677I just want to use this as an opportunity to get offtopic a little.
I dont realy get the obsession with this "issues", lately.
How can you say an argument is pointless?
If you dont read it, why bothering others with that fact?
I have a realy hard time to understand, why people do bash others for having a dispute, and often do not bother to contribute, or even point out what they dislike.
Its obvious that as long it goes on, for the two people its worth the argument and busting in to say nothing but "Stop now!" is awfully rude.
Noone forces anone to read what he posts.
Noone can hinder anyone to post and contribute or discuss what he wants to.
What the hell is you peoples problem?
