Well yeah, one copy of WinXP, and one C.D key can only be used once. Microsoft assumes you might try to give somebody else the copy, or try to install it on another computer.
Well, i'm not runnnig 2 copies....
Did you just buy this copy?
Yeah, which leads to our point. Can only be used once, and only once.
I don't know how pirates get it to work.![]()
I don't think so..
Then again..
I think you do..
Cause your formatting your hard drive, basically. And isn't that where the O.S is installed?
Call microsoft. They should be able to give you one of those over the phone keys... assuming your copy is legit of course.
Reputation: 10just find a "legal" activation on the net. if it wasnt against the rules i would post a link for you.
that is if microsoft wont help you...
Reputation: 35just use one of those programs that generate a key if your running the same os version right now it should work
If you have a legal copy, use the "active over phone", and follow those steps. Don't try to by-pass it if you got a legal copy. Just activate over phone, and follow the steps, and you'll be fine.
Reputation: 101. Did the windows xp come pre-installed on your pc? I ask just to verify.
2. If you bought it seperately, was it a OEM or Retail? If it was OEM your done. OEM is 1 computer period and they wont give another code unless you can convince them your old pc blew up and the operator is feeling nice.
If it is retail, then they will give you a code on the phone to activate your copy. Retail can be used on like 5 or so computers, but only 2 or 3 at the SAME time if those computers are in your house.
If you got a oem.. which is if you bought a oem or your pc came pre-installed <all pre-installed windows xp copies are OEM> then you cant use it again. But you can call and try.
