    Geesh...

"Do not touch Vista if you have AMD" Thats BS. I have AMD CPU and it runs like a dream. Don't post unless you know what you are talking about.

"Intel ftw" "XP ftw" What is wrong with you guys? Always spamming with useless fanboy posts. There are enough threads ala XP vs Vista and AMD vs Intel. Don't need to infect other threads with that BS. Some use intel, others use AMD. Some use Vista, others use XP. End of discussion..

first of: which processor you have... second: which OS you have?

Let me tell you this: i have windows Vista and i have AMD x2 Dual core ( 2.0ghz)= 4ghz.... and my cpu use is 30-40% with one i repeat one Internet Browser open! Nothing else than an internet browser

and then let me tell you this. my old comp which has the half of processor as the new one ( 2.0ghz) is much much much faster than the new one i have, and it uses XP home... ilogical!

and then let me tell you this: i have always been an AMD-fanboy, i admit that. but after seeing its ''co-operation'' with dell and vista it just turns me off. 30% cpu with only one internet browser open is simply TOO much.

    1) Nonono. You can't just add the Clock speeds on each core like that. It will be wrong my friend! ^^ 2GHz Dual Core does not mean 4GHz total. Your clock speed rating will be somewhat lower then that.

    2) What web brewser do you use? FF? IE? Opera? If you use FF, the CPU issue is actually FF related.

    I run:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.8GHz
    Windows Vista Home Premium

it may be rated at 4GHz but its not 4GHz

    does a 2x 9mm berreta make a 18mm berreta?

anyways free vista? maybe they want to give ppl a chance to try out vista before they buy it... and if alot going to like it microsoft is gaining $$$

that was my point... but its still irelevant... the thing is that, that processor is pretty high actualy... and it shouldnt be lagging with such a tiny thing as an internet browser..

my friend, i use IE ^^ ... i wasnt supposed to sound harsh, just so you know. but it just pisses me off that one internet browser can eat so much processor. and im not into tweaking the whole system for a better performance. guess we'll have to wait for sp1...

    By the way:

    "Processor A = 2ghz x 2 = ~4ghz
    Processor B = 2ghz x 1 = 2ghz"

That is a common misconception. Dual-core does not mean twice the power. Dual core is like having two processors. In this case, a dual-core 2.0GHz processor is like having two 2.0GHz processors. Most applications are single-threaded so they perform like they would on a 2.0GHz CPU. However with multi-threaded yes you can potentially have a system that is twice as fast (but not quite). Usually in programs that can use multiple CPUs you see a ~1.9x speedup.

What is your PC specs? It is weird that you have such CPU usage.

    Snow@

dunno, just checked its cpu and such things... but i knew it, even when i hadnt checked the cpu, it was very slow on start up and on ie... hope it can run games though, the gfx card should be able to handle it...

did i meantioned it was a laptop? though i still think it does a little difference it shouldnt make SUCH A HUGE DIFFERENCE...

I don't get it. You have to give up your privacy for a free Vista?

Yeah. But Dual Core can perform multiple tasks at the same time. So DC is better anyway

Oh shit, then I'm screwed. I'm pretty sure, only like 3% of what I do on the computer is legal.
