Default Linear Vs Open Ended MMORPGs?

    What's your preferred mmo style?

Do you prefer heavily pre-written content, linear quest driven mmos or open ended game mechanics that allow you to create your own story/entertainment?

I like neither, actually what I think would be better is to have a system where each players actions in the world have an effect on the game. Such as getting a mission to kill a certain noob while another person has a quest to protect him. Also the ability to kill NPCs would be cool.

Well, when I say open ended/non linear I'm speaking relatively. There has to be something created for the player to actually build an experience around or else there is simply no game.

What you are talking about is kinda odd since every story driven MMO has linear quests. Whats the use of a MMORPG witout any history or story? All you have is a engine, enviroment, character, and classes. You might as well be playing a player created NWN mod.

You will have MMORPGs that have quests not related to the storyline, but I have never seen an MMORPG that has no storyline or quests related to the storyline. There may be few and far between, but still story is always a must to the RPG element to an MMORPG.

Now, non-open maps or open enviroments that have walls and herd you in a general direction are not my thing. I do not like non-open linear worlds.

Some of what you say is somewhat moot when its applied to MMORPGs.

Nope, even in a RP server you have storyline, lore, and someone/something to give you objectives.

i was stating if you want stuff that actually has player interaction and not just "kill shit" RP servers are where yo go since those are more community based.

I would like a open ended game with a linear story or something so you have something else to aim for besides the lvl cap.

I like a very linear storyline that doesn't stop and start and leave you hanging but i also like the ability to wander off and take a break from it when i choose to not whne the developers decide to but a gap between quests (somthing like oblivion maybe)
