PvP is why MMORPGs are still alive. It has been around since the first of them, and I'll be damned if it isn't there with the last.
Don't fix what isn't broken.

Reputation: 13In all honesty I think open PK with penalties works best. Plus games such as cabal and Conquer that implement a Jail system protect newbies from being pked. What they do need to implement in Cabal is the thing they had in conquer where people could pay to get into Jail and kill people there without any penalties.
Cabal's system really doesn't help though. You need to kill 5 people to enter jail, but nothings stopping PKers from killing 3-4 people, then dancing in town till their PK penalty is over.
I'd suggest making it so guards attack/kill PKers if they enter town, but then I'd get pro-PKers whining at me
Reputation: 13LOL, but they have to waste time dancing and all they can kill is just 4 people. Hell I remember in conquer my friend and I would go on raids get up to 300 pkp and then leave our chars in jail over night =P.
What we should have is that guard system that conquer had. That was awesome you flash you die muahaha.

Does it honestly ruin the community?
Imagine this: A game where all you do is fight monsters, their AI never changes and you just keep fighting them to level up.
Now imagine if people can kill you too. People have much more intelligence than a program and can provide entertaining and fun pk fights which can bring forth a variety of emotions from both people.
But that's not all PKing can do to stimulate the community;
rivalries can be formed, including rival guilds etc. Players who are constantly pked will seek guilds and partys for protection.
All in all, PK adds to the gaming community-if you don't like it, tough, it adds flavor to being online and in a lot of ways seperates an MMORPG from an RPG.
Example: Imagine Perfect World without PKing, on Delphi server things would be a LOT less entertaining.
That guard system is so so, depends if the guards are insanely overpowered they can protect but if their limited its kinda fun. I remember in L2 I would kill the guards just for the hell of it because they were 10 lvls lower than me, no drops but i got xp from killing them.
If you could kill them, their not overpowered, I remember on a pserver in L2 where all guards had bows and 1 shot from them did 9999 dmg, now thats what you call overpowered.
