RYL if your a cheap ass.
Reputation: 167In the future you will have AoC and Chronicles of Spellborn
CoSB intrested me but i have NO info on it as of now and the fact its been in development for roughtly 3-4 years now
It is a genre that needs to be looked into more. Too bad none of the titles mentioned above imo are even remotely as close to as good as Diablo 2 is.
I think developers are starting to understand that lots of online gamers would like a bit more of action in their online games.
Like Cyber7Chink said AoC and Spellborn aren't too far away.
sadly some major developers won't change from what we have now to more action in an instant.
change is scary and can be bad if done wrong.
company A releases an action mmo and it fails horribly, other companies are going to learn from this mistake and work on it while producing more standard mmos.
its an unperfected science as of right now, but soon we will have more action mmos.
Reputation: 24Age Of Conan and Darkfall.
Darkfall will make puppy poop out of everything else
and Within Temptations video of The Howling has ingame clips of Spellborn
so +1337 to Spellborn
not too enthusiastic about AoC, not after what I've heard.
C7C, now you're just trying to be an ass with semantic games. Hack-n-Slash can be an ARPG when you look at the elements within D2 for character development from Levels, Stats, Talent Trees, and overall character based storyline progression. Granted it doesn't have the depth of a PnP game, but that is actually a defining element of the ARPG genre as a whole. Diablo 1/2 has been referred to as an ARPG for over 12 years now, so no matter whether you agree with it or not that's the facts. Now go e-thug on someone else.
Reputation: 10Strategy and action games are the best. I used to love playing Nexus before it went pay to play, summoning people into caves was good action, especially when you could steal their stuff after a wolf killed them.
i think he was talking about open world actiony and not room based.
Diablo 2 to *YOU* is not what an ARPG is all about. That is why we have delightful little things called "Sub-Genres" such as HnS plus the added little quaint thing called "opinions". BG I didn't mention because I find it less "Action" oriented. BG, Icewind, and such are all enjoyable games and fit well into the ARPG genre because of their solid roots in PnP gaming. Even looking at the D&D titles I find Planescape: Torment to be a superior product to any of the D&D games that have ever been released thus far including those mentioned above. Your dislike of HnS gaming is just giving you tunnel vision imo. Now I'm done with this thread because you're just regurgitating tired old nerd logic.
I ment more along the lines of rakion but alright
Reputation: 167Sorry HnS is not a sub-genre. Before the console wars and before PCs were even thought of being a personal computer, there was pencil-n-paper RPGs. In those games you have something we (game masters and gamers) called hack-n-slash gaming. HnS is a term that was used when the gamemaster had nothing to contribute to the game other than combat related situations. It was also what we call the players who couldnt do anything but fight in a RPG. HnS campaigns were considered something for the morons or thugs of RPG gaming.
Its not a sub-genre, its a poorly created excuse of an RPG. Sorry, but ignorance is what you contributed to this thread. No other excuse but that. Learn something about its origins before you start to post.
